I bought this as a birthday present for my grandson (14 yoa). I was worried whether he would like it or not as he had recently stopped playing the clarinet (lost interest in it). Once he opened it and realized what it was, he was thrilled and played it continuously for about 45 minutes. He and his older brother even figured out how to play it together. I was thrilled with his response and look forward to him continuing to enjoy it.
I would buy this again

In other reviews I noticed customers were surprise of the existence of this instrument, and refer to it more as a toy. If this is you case I have to say this melodica has great tone and it is also very sensitive to volume dynamics. However I noticed that the saliva valve does not work that well and this would mute a key or two while you are playing. They go back to work right away but still this can be quite annoying. The mechanisms seems good quality but the rest (cover) is plain plastic, I am not very positive on its durability. I am a keyboardists and melodica can be a useful tool-toy either with the band or just to take around. If you are in my situation I think you should spent a couple of extra bucs and get the airboard, also by Honner but a little more professional.

As a keyboard player and music therapist, I wanted to find an instrument that could be utilized for therapy, but also something different to perform with and also have fun with for kids. This is a great instrument for that! It gives off a good vibrational effect for therapy purposes, and can also be played easily by someone with disabilities. It is consistent, has a nice, warm sound, and a pretty good response. I also have the Instructor 32, using it for about a year, and it has also served well. Highly recommended for kids learning, music therapy, and also for pros to add something different to their sound.
