Description
The Marine Band Deluxe Harmonica combines the features of the legendary harmonica with a variety of state-of-the-art improvements, which can best be described as a modified version of the Marine Band Classic.
In comparison, the Marine Band Deluxe optimizes all the great characteristics of the original classic Marine Band in a player friendly harmonica. Hohner's goal was to offer a contemporary ten hole diatonic with the long, successful history players associate with the Marine Band legacy.
Hohner has developed state-of-the-art improvements, which include optimized handling to ensure greater volume & faster response while retaining the richness and power of the Hohner Classic Sound.
The reedplate covers have been opened up considerably in the back of the harmonica and folded in a way as to make it very sturdy and hard to bend in when grasping the harp in a playing manner. They are solid with extreme quality in this respect.
By having the reedplate cover openings further off the comb you get better sound projection, air flow over the reeds, as well as more resonance and sustain!
The covers are held on with 4 screws per cover.

This harp plays extemely well right out of the box, smooth, LOUD, bends easily and is far more comfortable (to me) than the standard marine band . Having played for forty years, I've tried most, but my favorite has been the special 20. I bought 3 of the deluxes and I do like them better than the 20's----but--for over fifty bucks a pop Hohner could have easily made some minor improvements. The cover plates are attached w/screws rather than pins--great for those who tweak and maintain they're own harps, as i do, however, why not make replaceable reed plates? The comb is finally rounded and "partially" sealed with the dividing posts nicely rounded which makes it hand/lip friendly. Although the comb is not "fully sealed" I've not gotten any swelling, so this may not be an issue. I've seen reviews that stated this was equal to a custom harp right out of the box---not so, but a custom will run at least twice the price of the deluxe. Very nice harp, I'll probably stay with them, but Hohner could have been a bit more consumer friendly on price and offered replaceable reedplates.
