Hearos Assemble!

At my age, I am trying to preserve as many of my bodily functions as I can; including my hearing. I usually employ foam earplugs at jam sessions and when I practice my guitar-playing and vocals at home. Hearos work well and they are not too expensive. As a bonus, this economy pack of 28 pairs of Hearos can be distributed in a small venue if nobody in the audience is there to listen to the music - so, there's that too.

I'm writing to amend my previous review. I still can't recommend Hearos until they change back to their original materials. (They used to be pretty much perfect.) But after reading my review, Guitar Center contacted me and sincerely apologized, and refunded my money on the spot. So I had to add a couple extra stars for that.
Counterfeit or defective

I've been using Hearos ear plugs for at least 10 years and these are not the same. They have a slightly sticky finish instead of being smooth (almost powdery) like they used to be. The materials being used to make them are obviously different, and I'm wondering if they're counterfeit. Over a month of use I developed rashes deep into both of my ear canals, which led to inflammation and an inner ear infection in my left ear. When I switched to a different brand of ear plugs the rashes went away within days, so this was absolutely the cause. The damage was already done to my inner ear, and after ear drops and antibiotics I'm still dizzy. Guitar Center refused to issue me any refund when I called customer service, even after I spoke to a supervisor. I'm disgusted by that.
