I bought this for my husband to start playing mandolin. He has no musical background. This book moves so quickly from tab to reading music with no instruction on how to read music and then right into 16th note rhythms. I taught piano for 30 years and was dumbfounded by the leaps and bounds made in this book. I am using the Hal Leonard to learn the ukulele, and it is completely different. I was very disappointed that the mandolin book didn't progress in a similar manner and speed as the ukulele book.

As a beginner, in playing a mandolin, I didn't like this book. It was confusing to me and I didn't feel like it helped me along in the learning process. I bought a different method book that I feel has helped me a lot better. I bought it because of the reviews it had received, but we all have different learning types, and this book didn't do it for me.
