Hagstrom

Description

This electric 12-string guitar is based upon the popular Viking DLX, possessing a Ply Maple body and top to tonally emphasize each of the octave strings, all fit together with a set maple neck for added brilliance on this 12 stringed chorale piece. This model comes equipped with Hagstrom's famed H-Expander truss rod accompanied by the Resinator Fretboard.

As a 12-string guitar normally has a tension of over 200 lbs of pressure on the neck, the H-Expander truss rod will keep the 12-string neck straight for years to come. Due to the further unique frequencies created with the help of the Resinator fretboard, the volume and tone of the octave strings are further enhanced to keep up with the naturally fuller volume of the standard strings, to allow for a lavishing and balanced 12 string sound.

To match the Viking DLX 12's fuller acoustic sound, a set of Hagstrom H-50 humbucking pickups are adopted to provide a natural and clean calibrated electric tone, delivering cleaner vintage tones familiar from yesteryear, as well as the ability to deliver nastier tones, to open up a whole new expressive world where 12 string guitars have never ventured before.

I've been interested in Hagstrom guitars from the time I saw Kerry Livgren playing one, as well as my first guitar teacher in the 70's. Just got my first one, the Viking DLX12, and even though they're no longer made in Sweden, now in China, I have to say I am very impressed with the fit & finish, solid quality hardware, robust pups and eq. The neck relief, and intonation were perfect when it arrived. All I had to do was slightly lower the bass side of the bridge for action at 1/16" at the 12th fret. I was inspired enough to play for about 4 hours the first day. It is very versatile for great chimey 60's Beatles clean, ambient reverb and delay drenched atmospherics, all the way to metal shredding. While 6 strings excel in the bends department, the 12 string is 3D. You can still get good bends on the unison higher strings. After initial adjustment time for the feel, I was amazed at how easy it plays. No fatigue after hours of playing. After the limitations a 12 string acoustic guitar poses, this 12 string will spoil me. This guitar could easily cost 2 to 3 times more than it does. Hagstrom has hit one out of the park in my opinion. Get one.

I have always loved the rich sound of a 12 string. I am getting back into playing guitar after focusing on playing drums. My brother had a Hagstrom in the 60's so thats how I became familiar with the brand. Purchased thru guitar center very hassle free. Have now played it alone and thru my fender mustang 3. I am enamored with the sound quality. The fit and finish are superior. I have the transparent cherry. I was concerned that 12 stringd would be difficult to compress on the fret board but no such issue. The only fatigue i experience has been in my wrist mostly because I'm sure I need to develope my strength and playing position. I read several other reviews before my purchase.....all praising this guitar and its price range. I am in full agreement. It has been compared to some great guitars like Gibson with good reviews. I concur and highly recommend the Viking deluxe 12 string as an addition to anyones guitar collection.
