I decided to return my new Gretsch 5420T Hollow body as I was hearing a lot of fret buzzing. So I ordered a Guild Starfire V in the Cherry Red. I just picked it up from GC and it came with a form fitting plush hard shell case and sounded great plugged in at the store. So I returned the Gretsch and walked away with the Guild. I had also tried a PRS SE Hollow body but for me the body was too small (otherwise a nice guitar although the bindings/trim seemed a bit less than high quality. Anyway, the Starfire came with an owners manual/brochure and a Q/C sheet in the case that gave the string heights as measured at the factory which I thought was showed good Q/C; where the Gretsch and the PRS SE if I recall had none of that paperwork and no case (correction the PRS SE did have a fairly cheap looking case.) They all played nice but the fit and finish and overall craftsmanship and playability of the Guild beat the other two out in my opinion. It played very nice, very clear tones and I could play bar chords all the way up the neck fairly clean and easily. Just to be clear, both the Gretsch and the PRS SE were beautiful guitars and would make many guitar players very happy, other than some slight buzzing on the Gretsch that quite possibly could have been easily fixed, so don't take the fact that I traded them back as reason not to get one, they are nice!) I think with the Guild, I will be very happy, now if I can only find the right amp; I have an old Fender front man.
