Starfire Bass II NAT

Starfire Bass II NAT

Guild
Description
The Guild Starfire Bass II is a dual-pickup semi-hollow short-scale electric bass guitar that brings additional sonic options to one of Guild's most iconic models. The Starfire Bass II originally debuted in 1967, shortly after the single-pickup version, and quickly garnered a following that included Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane) and Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead).

The addition of the BiSonic BS-1 neck pickup on the Starfire Bass II gives bassists a warmer, smooth sound for added tonal flexibility. This double-cutaway short-scale bass guitar features an arched laminate mahogany top and back, and mahogany sides, dual Guild BS-1 pickups, individual volume, tone and master volume knobs, and a pickup selector switch. A clear, high-gloss finish highlights this bass guitar's natural beauty.

This Starfire Bass II comes with a hardshell case.

BS-1 BiSonic pickup
The Guild BS-1 BiSonic pickup was originally found in many of the solid and hollowbody Guild basses in the 1960s and '70s. The BS-1 has developed a cult following resulting in several reissue versions and designs, including the famous Darkstar by Fred Hammon and BS-DS by Curtis Novak. Wound to 6.4 kohms, similar in specification to a Hammon Darkstar, the Guild BS-1 provides a refined modern tone in a classic package.

This bass is beyond words. It's gorgeous, sounds amazing and the feel of it is incomparable. As soon as I held onto it, I knew it was "the one"... even before I plugged it in! The Starfire II with the black finish looks classy, like a 50's Thunderbird, and it turns the head of any other musician in the room. She sounds like dream with its warm tones, on any pickup with any tone setting. There's a lot of basses out there that are unfortunately super ugly, but this one definitely isn't and surpasses all the rest.

I've been playing guitar for many years. Dealing with the pandemic isolation, I decided to teach myself bass guitar. I have had standard scale basses in the past but never warmed up to them. I tried a short scale and, viola, I now enjoy the instrument. Guild has been making quality products for ages and this bass continues the tradition. I'm glad to have it in my guitar family. I would recommend this bass.

This guitar does not feel like an overseas, price point bass. The fretwork was very good with good fret edge dressing and level. The finish was flawless. The neck was narrow, but on the thicker side ... very much like my Fender Jazz bass in the first position. Overall volume pickup is a very nice touch when playing out live and adjusting on the fly.
