collapse expand iconDescription

The Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet BT electric guitar offers a bold tone and retro-inspired style. Guitar Center is proud to offer the G5220, a guitar that blends vintage esthetics with modern playability. Its chambered mahogany body resonates with a present midrange, accentuated by crisp highs and thick lows from the maple top. The G5220 is armed with a pair of Broad'Tron pickups that deliver an aggressive overdrive with definition and balance. Shape your tone with precision using the individual volume controls and master volume with treble bleed circuit. Additional features include a 12" radius laurel fingerboard, pearloid big block inlays, a synthetic bone nut and die-cast tuners. Pick up the G5220 Electromatic Jet BT at Guitar Center for a guitar that looks as mean as it sounds.

Black Top Broad'Tron Pickups Provide Thick, Defined Overdrive

The G5220 Electromatic Jet BT gets its bold tone from a pair of Broad'Tron pickups. These pickups provide an aggressive overdrive with enough definition to maintain note clarity and balance. The bridge pickup has a tight, cutting tone for leads, while the neck pickup delivers a warm, throaty growl perfect for rhythm playing. With individual volume controls for each pickup, you can blend the pickups to find your perfect balance of grit and girth.

Chambered Mahogany Body Resonates with Rich Tone

The G5220 has a chambered mahogany body with a maple top that provides resonance and tonal complexity. The mahogany body has a naturally warm and balanced tone with a clear midrange, while the maple top adds crisp articulation to the highs and focused thump to the lows. Strategic chambers in the body reduce weight while allowing the tonewoods to breathe, resulting in a full, dynamic tone that sustains for days.

Master Volume with Treble Bleed Circuit Maintains High-End Clarity

As you lower the volume on most guitars, the high frequencies tend to get lost, resulting in a muffled tone. The G5220 Electromatic Jet BT solves this issue with a master volume control and treble bleed circuit. As you decrease the master volume, the treble bleed circuit allows the high frequencies to remain so your tone stays clear and defined at any volume. You get full, open tone when cranked and rich, expressive tone at lower volumes.

Stable Hardware Provides Accurate Intonation

The G5220 Electromatic Jet BT features a synthetic bone nut and die-cast tuners that provide stable intonation and tuning. The synthetic bone nut transfers vibrations efficiently for a resonant tone. The die-cast tuners are durable and accurately hold pitch through even the most intense playing sessions. Overall, the hardware on the G5220 helps ensure that it plays and sounds its best every time you pick it up.

Extra Star for Amazing Price

I went to GC to purchase an expensive boutique pedal and unexpectedly walked out with a used one of these that cost less than the pedal. This is the only guitar I currently own that was not made in the USA. There are many significant quality differences, but the guitar holds its own considering it was 1/8th the cost of my most expensive PRS, and it gets an extra star for that. The GOOD: the guitar body itself has decent build quality and the neck is great. Since I bought it 2nd hand, it's likely that the guitar had a pro setup at some point, but set up as it is, the action is comfortable and the (unexpected) 12" radius makes it one of the fastest-playing guitars I own. I bought this for the Gretsch sound, but I'm not a full-time player. It's probably why, despite their conflicted reputation, I really like the Broadtron pickups, which sound more modern and meaty, but still deliver the sound I was looking for. With the knobs on 10, even the much-maligned neck pickup delivers plenty of sparkle, and I can play almost anything but metal on this versatile guitar. The BAD: The hardware and wiring are clearly victims of cost-cutting. I was excited to have a master volume knob, but compared to the subtle control I'm used to with my USA PRSs, all the controls are basically useless off/on switches, and I definitely don't hear the advertised treble bleed. I'm going to have to rewire/replace pretty much everything but the pickups. Although they generally hold tune reasonably well since there's thankfully no Bigsby, the tuners are also cheap, and there's far too much play in the gears. I'm also afraid of accidentally breaking the cheap pickguard. Like many other bargain guitars made in, the back of the neck has something of a cheap-furniture quality due to the thick, goopy layer of polyurethane finish. I may have that sanded down. Still, even with the cost of what for me are some necessary upgrades, this is still a very good buy for the money. It looks great; it feels great, and with the controls on 10, it sounds great, too.

Stay Away, Far Away

I purchased the guitar in red. It was a beautiful guitar, I should have realized that it was not a good guitar, since I was the 3rd owner in less than 2 months. Other than its looks, it was just awful. The pickups were very muddy. The master volume know was mounted crooked. One of the tone knobs had a wobbly shaft. The 5th string buzzed on most frets. I played it through several amps and was very disappointed. It sounded even worse with pedals. I wanted so much to like this guitar, but I returned it the next day. It played like a $250 guitar. Hopefully owner # 4 will enjoy it.

I ordered a new in box Gretsch G5220. I was then contacted by GC stating they only had an open box in Excellent condition no issues would I take that. I said sure if it was as described. Received the guitar 3 days later, opened the box and was very disappointed with what was sent! Missing master volume knob, broken , cracked and damaged body. Returned it to my Local GC next days a was told by the guitar tech who helped me that this guitar was at best in fair condition. 2nd time in a year GC did this to me. Will probably never buy online again from them!

This is a great guitar overall. The fit and finish is fantastic and the setup was pretty good. The pickups sound great. They can get mean and dirty or clean up and chime like a bell. The firestick red color is much prettier in person. It's actually more of a copperish red/orange. The only thing I can knock are the tuners. They are very cheap and have a lot of play. I had my guitar tech replace them with Grover tuners (406c's are a drop in replacement) and now it's a really great guitar.

I use this for home practice jamming and playing worship music at church. Great sound for cheaper guitar. Now I had to have a Fender Luther in my area fix the a bad pickup pod and change out a defective selector switch and tighten up the tuner keys. All covered by warranty. It's a solid playing guitar now . I checked when this guitar was made Dec 11 1922 and I ordered it in April of 2024. These guitars are made in China and can take up to a year and a half for the completed process shipped to US retailers so they can sell them. When buying this G5220 Gretsch check the weight of it I ordered 2 of them and fortunately, the one with the best green color and looks and played the best was the lightest one at 7 1/2 pounds the other one weighed 9 1/2 pounds so the weights can really vary who wants to play 9 to 10lb guitar. I like low action the 12 radius neck makes it easy to play. Thankyou Brett manager of Grandjuction CO store with this order!!

I was pleasantly surprised when I unboxed this guitar. The price (especially after the Gretsch markdown and additional "in cart" discount) was very cheap! I had never owned a Gretsch and decided to take a chance. This guitar is nothing short of "amazing" given the price. The finish looks great. The action is excellent (best action I've ever experienced on an "out of the box" instrument. The instrument is very well balanced and the pickguard is in a very comfortable position (at least for my playing style). The pickups sound great and will add some welcomed variety to my Gibson humbuckers and Fender single coils. The guitar seems a little light to me (it has a chambered body). But I like very heavy guitars. Also, the tuning heads could be better. But, at this price, I've already started pricing replacements. The inexpensive price makes this a great addition to any experienced player's guitar collection or an EXCELLENT instrument for someone just starting out (this guitar would be great to learn on). In my opinion, the quality, value, playability and workmanship in this instrument far exceeds other guitars in this price range.
