Fantastic guitar, but with issues

Although this guitar is fantastic, it does have some shortcomings that can be easily fixed and addressed. When compared with the pro/Japanese Gretsch models, it's pretty evident where they went on the cheaper side. But even with those shortcuts, it's still a fantastic instrument. The two most notable cheapos are the tuning gears, which are really poor Marvel tuners (I think these are used on most modern Electromatics), and the second is the bridge, which is acceptable, but the post mounts and bushings are cheap (the bridge itself is fine, although I am concerned about breaking strings). The pickup switch feels a little flimsy, but it's not a deal killer. For the tuners, they have to be immediately changed. I replaced them with locking Grover 406Gs, which are significantly more accurate and make changing strings on a Bigsby guitar reasonable. I'm going to stick with the bridge, but I think an upgrade is something that will happen in the future. Another thing, and I think people purchasing a guitar like need to know, is it needs heavier gauge strings to get that real, deep, vintage Gretsch tone. I'm using a wound G string, for example. With heavier gauge strings, you're not only getting a better Gretsch tone; the flaky intonation issue, which generally plagues the unwound strings, mostly vanishes. Now, for the good parts. (it's mostly good). The tone with the P90s still maintains that faithful Gretsch tone, but adds a bite that is missing from their humbuckers. Highly recommend it for that alone. Also, my guitar came pretty much completely set up. Not truss rod adjustments, and the intonation was nearly perfect once I installed heavier strings. And of course, let's not forget the stunning look of this guitar. All of the Pristines are remarkably beautiful. This is really, with the exceptions I already mentioned, an almost perfect match between form and fucntion, especially at this price point. It gets 4 stars from me because it's not perfect, but with some upgrades, it is certainly very close.
