I got this drum set for Christmas of 2017. So far I've been playing drums for over two years, and its held up pretty well overall. I'm not a big fan of the cymbals; they don't sound great, but they are good for when your practicing or a beginner. I also definitely recommend to get different heads with the set because they aren't the greatest. The shells are really nice and overall I'm happy how it has performed over the past year and a half I've had it.

I was going to buy the SPL Birch kit for a little less. It was missing a screw and I noticed this set up on the shelf while they were looking for it. The SPL Birch kit came with a cheap drum heads, cheap high hat, cheap crash/ride, cheap hardware, and a tiny throne. As I looked at it, the Gretsch Energy set became a no brainer and I am extremely happy with my purchase. The Gretsch set comes with quality hardware, a good drum heads, and zildjian cymbals. I saved money by buying this set and not having to upgrade/replace broken and cheaper hardware and cymbals. After playing for 2 weeks, I was at Guitar center and I sat down and played on the SPL set and other sets in the $500 and could hear a drastic difference in the sound quality. This set sounds great and is very fun to play. Additionally, the Toms are mounted on the cymbal hardware rather than mounted to the bass drum which seems to be something you find on high end sets.

My only gripe is the snare isn't as beefy as I'd like but other than that, it's been a great set

I started playing the drums a little over a year ago and this was my first drum set and the set I currently use. I love it and it allows me to practice all types of music and the cymbals it comes with are fantastic and sound great. The only thing I don't love about it is that the high and middle toms are supported off the stands of the crash and ride cymbals which can sometimes cause the cymbal stands to become very uneven because of the weight. It can also cause a strange ring off the cymbals. That does not outweigh the great things about it, though and I am happy with this purchase

With the Energy 5 set toms being mounted on the cymbal stands instead of the bass, does that limit placement and is there enough space between the cymbals and the toms ? Can the brackets from the stands to the toms be extended or is it a set length. Thanks
