I have used these in the past but they can be somewhat difficult to find. I went to the GC store and they did not have them in stock but quickly offered to have one shipped. I had it in like 2-3 days - which was awesome. This piece works very well and will turn your guitar into a slide machine - as it raises the strings enough to really lay the slide into and get more feeling and different tones. I am using it on a Gibson Victory guitar and it works like a charm - very cool!

This nut extender turns any guitar into a steel guitar. Great! However, if you're looking for a proper "dobro" sound, you won't get it out of a non-resonator [i.e. normal] guitar. It's the resonator that makes that bright, tinny familiar sound, and without it, you won't sound like Jerry Douglas. That's not a bad thing, just how it is. If you're looking for a lap steel/Weissenborn sound, this is a good budget option. On electric guitars, you'll want to adjust your pickups to the higher action, the bridge more than neck. Many open tunings will require different string gauges, but an extender nut and a new set of strings is still much cheaper than a brand new lap steel or Hawaiian guitar.

I converted a cheap Dean guitar into a slide guitar, and for the most part it works and sounds great. The sound is far superior to just playing a normal acoustic guitar with a slide. The only problem is that the nut's width is greater than the fingerboard's width so playing traditionally is out of the question. Great product!
