Gibson

Description

Dark, sleek and built to wail—the Gibson SG Standard Dark limited-edition electric guitar brings a bold new edge to a rock icon. From Sammy Hagar's explosive Red Rocker tone to Derek Trucks' searing slide work and Sister Rosetta Tharpe's gospel-powered fire, the SG has long been the choice of players who go big and play louder. This all-black version dials it up with a solid mahogany body, Super '57 and '57 Classic pickups, a bound Richlite fingerboard and blackout hardware that looks as fierce as it sounds. If you're after vintage soul with modern bite, this SG is built to deliver.

What Makes the SG Standard Dark Special?

This SG delivers unmistakable bite, but with even more attitude. The Super '57 in the bridge offers boosted output and edge, while the '57 Classic in the neck brings warm, vintage tone with creamy mids. It's a versatile setup that spans gritty blues to full-stack rock—just like you'll hear on tracks from Tony Iommi or Angus Young. Add in a resonant mahogany body and long-tenon neck joint, and you've got sustain that cuts through with clarity and strength.

Why Choose the SG Standard Dark Limited Edition?

It's got the look, but it's all about the feel. The gloss-black finish and blackout hardware set the tone visually, while the bound Richlite fingerboard plays fast and smooth. A 12" radius and long-tenon neck joint at the 19th fret support clean bends, bold tone and endless sustain. This is a player's guitar—designed for long sessions and built for the stage.

How Does It Perform Live and in the Studio?

The SG Standard Dark is loaded with rock-solid hardware for performance-ready reliability. A Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece deliver excellent intonation and sustain, while Grover tuners and a Graph Tech nut keep your tuning stable under pressure. Whether you're pushing an amp into overdrive or tracking clean tones, this SG stays responsive and expressive.

Where Will the SG Standard Dark Take You?

From vintage tones to modern textures, the SG Standard Dark adapts to your style. Its bold looks and classic Gibson build quality make it ready for the spotlight, while its sonic range invites experimentation. Whether you're channeling Zappa's chaos or crafting something totally new, this limited-edition SG is ready to go wherever your playing takes you.

I figured I would get an SG and GC had this one and I tried it out and it was good. It had a great playing feel. A liveliness to it. The pickups sound great. Classic. The fretwork is excellent. Its a pro guitar. I guess my main priority is how a guitar plays. It's plays great and sounds great.

  • Amazing guitar with killer tone.

I purchased this guitar a few weeks ago and since, I haven't put it down. The pickups are amazing. You can't tell the difference between the Richlite and a standard ebony or rosewood fretboard. Great weight and size and the blacked out hardware look very good. Really good setup off the shelf. Guitar is super quiet and I haven't encountered any mechanical issues or fret buzz at all. I play this through a 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue and an original Marshall Plexi and it likes both amps. The pickups can go from blues and jazz to doom. Then from country to punk rock. Super versatile and I'm 100% satisfied with this purchase. Honestly I've been playing this way more than my Gibson Les Paul.

  • I'd recommend to people who want richlite fretboard on an sg

The guitar is basically an SG Standard but with black pickgaurd and black headstock with richlite fretboards. Auesthetically cool, nothing too different compared to the standard. The Frets aren't the best quality, the pickup selector switch was loose. other than that this guitar is perfect rock n roll machine!!!
