Gibson
Description
Introduced in 1954 as an entry-level version of the Les Paul, the Les Paul Junior graduated from kids bedrooms, to garage bands, to club and arena stages through the course of three decades as it became a favorite of beginners and professional players alike. The bare-bones, slab-bodied, single-cutaway electric earned the respect of rock and rollers in particular, and became a punk favorite in the late ™70s and early ™80s, but also turned up in the hands of a surprisingly diverse range of guitar stars.

As simple as the Les Paul Junior was in design and construction, its basic cornerstone ingredients added up to create a robust and toneful instrument. The marriage of its resonant mahogany body, sturdy glued-in Gibson neck, and now a pair of Gibson 490 humbucking pickups has created a guitar with surprising reserves of power and crunch at an extremely appealing price. Now the Les Paul Jr Special w/ humbuckers reproduces the simple pleasures of that 55-year-old classic, while updating the format with a second pickup in the neck position (a la the Les Paul Special), and improved hardware in the form of a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece combination.

When I first purchased this guitar, I always prefaced telling people about it saying "It doesn't look nice, but it rocks." Well, I've changed my mind since. It does look nice in its simplicity. In fact, I prefer it. Because of the low price (relatively speaking..), I have no problem keeping it out in the open where I can pick it up and practice whenever I can. This guitar rocks hard, like its big brother Les Pauls. I absolutely love mine. It feels nice in the hand, and paired with a quality amp, it is dynamite. The sound is one of quality, and you can tell that the woods and construction render a beautiful tone. I did change the pickups to taste because I prefer more of a smooth lead tone as opposed to the wall of crunch. To me, pickups are the one part of any guitar subject to change to personal preference.

My bro-in-law bought a P90 version Jr Sp in tobacco sunburst satin and I couldn't believe how nice it was and the playability not to mention tone. I just had to have one but I wanted a gloss black finish with humbuckers. Wow what a fantastic guitar! The fit and finish were excellent. I bought chrome covers for the buckers and man does it look sweet! The sustain on it is awesome. Plays like a dream. Comes with 10 guage strings which has become my favorite gauge. The deal I got on it was amazing for an American made Gibson Les Paul. Nice, nice guitar!

I recently purchased the Les Paul Junior Special with humbuckers. It plays great and stays in tune very well. It's a no thrills Les Paul but that's what I was looking for. A lot of the punk bands from the 70s that I like used a Les Paul Special so that what I wanted for playing. They didn't have the 2 humbuckers but it sounds great nonetheless. Totally happy with the purchase. Even though the ebony version I bought didn't come with a pick guard as shown in the picture on GC website. Makes it all the more special I guess. Great buy and you won't be disappointed.

Went to GC looking for a Les Paul. Really wanted one with P-90's but played about 15 different types of Les Paul's. I actually only picked up the Satin Black Special because it was on sale. I expected it to play like a guitar in that price range. Boy was I surprised. The feel of the neck and the buttery smooth baked maple finger board had me hooked instantly. I immediately started putting the quiver of Les Paul's I had around me back on the wall. This guitar played better and sounded better than ones costing upward of $2k. Needless to say the Special and I went home together.

Bought this guitar 4 weeks ago. The tone, the looks (satin cherry) and the feel are incredible. Had to adjust the intonation but is perfect now. I am so impressed with the tonal quality and sustain. You can hear the guitar go through several tonal sounds while holding a note. The price is fantastic. Would pay several hundred dollars more but am happy with what I paid. I would recommend this guitar to anyone from beginner to pro.

I recently purchased the Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckings and satin yellow finish. I currently own a 77 Les Paul Standard but was looking for a lighter Les Paul that I could gig with. I purchased this guitar on line from Guitar Center, it arrived quickly and was well packaged. The guitar has a nice playing neck with no fret buzz and the pickups sound great. It does not have the gloss finish of a Les Paul Standard but for the price you can't beat it. The only adjustmnents needed were a minor string height change and re-setting the intonation. I have played this guitar out and am pleased with the sound and how it plays.
