Gibson
Description
Mysteriously stealthy, the Gibson "Dark Knight" Les Paul has an understated beauty, with a translucent smoke-black satin finish over the intricately figured quilted maple top. The mahogany body bears modern weight relief to keep it lightweight. Gibson '57 Classic and Classic Plus humbuckers provide the muscle, and the Nashville-style tune-o-matic bridge and locking tuners make sure everything stays in tune. Matte-black hardware and an ebony fingerboard add the final, subtle touches to the somber aura of this stunning instrument. Includes hardshell case.

  • Nice Guitar, But A Few Disappointments

It's a beautiful guitar and the neck feels fantastic. The satin finish feels fast and the pickups and tone are excellent. The binding work could be a little better and the tuners are advertised as Grover locking tuners, but they are just standard tuners (not locking). The case is HEAVY, but solid. The case easily collects scratches and blemishes. I wish they had sealed the brushed aluminum finish of the case. My case was dented by GC as it was stored. Finally, the setup was bad. A lot of a setup is personal preference, but other aspects are not. Intonation was way off and the tailpiece was cranked all the way down to the body, causing the strings to break twice at the bridge (once at the saddles, of course, and then again across the back edge of the bridge). I do my own setups anyway, so no big deal...just indicates that the luthier at my GC is not all that great. I was also told when I decided to make the purchase that it was 48 months of interest-free financing, but when I was cashed out by the store manager, I was sorely disappointed to learn that it was actually 24 months interest-free financing. That part was more disappointing than the falsely advertised locking tuners, damaged case, and the really bad setup. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, but I didn't care too much for the purchasing experience.

This guitar made me switch from my Start to a Paul. Once you play it, can"t put it down. The neck, sound, finish and feel of it is just perfect. I also own a '59 custom shop...but I have not touched it since I tuned this one. Hands down, the best guitar I have ever played, and I used to play for a living back in the day of LA fame. It is worth every penny and I think I will ne playing this beauty from here on out. This guitar is addictive. On all levels.

Make sure to see it in person when you buy it because the quilt maple top patterns can vary.

  • I would buy it again.

Fast ebony neck with rich sound makes it perfect for any style. It is lighter than standard so it is easy to play for hours.

I've seen this guitar hanging up at my local GC for months, never bothered playing it because of the price tag but this past weekend I said what the heck, and took it off the wall. OMG. Love the neck, feels great. Not too thick not too thin. Satin finish is awesome to look at. And I'm really diggin the pickups. All the volume and tone pots are push pull so you can get some really neat tones out of the pickups. I really do love it. Oh, I play pop punk. Don't hear that too often anymore. It's either metal/hard rock or blues and stuff. All I play is power chords and it's dope as heck! Had to adjust the pickup height twice to nail my tone. I use a jcm900 and Blackstar HT 40.

According to an independent review I had seen, the Dark Knight comes with a brushed aluminum-type looking case. Is this true? Thank you.

Does this really have locking Grover tuners. I've see one shipped without the spec....what's up?

    Open Reply - Ronald
Yes they have locking grover tuners.

I didn't see Grover locking tuners at Guitar Center. Did your guitars have locking tuners when shipped to you? Wondering if the one at the store was an early production?

    Open Reply - Ronald
Without seeing the model in store it's tough to say. It could be a used guitar that was upgraded by the previous owner or as you state it could be an older or different model.
