Clearance Gibson J-45 Studio Acoustic-Electric Guitar Antique Natural

The J-45 has been a staple and top-seller for Gibson since its debut in 1942. Renowned for its durability, the stripped-down round shoulder dreadnought design was nicknamed "The Workhorse." Over the years, the J-45 has been a go-to for legends like James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, as well as modern songwriters like Aimee Mann, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) and James Mercer (The Shins).

J-45 Tonewoods and Bracing
This J-45 Studio acoustic/electric guitar pairs a walnut body with a Sitka spruce top. Sitka spruce is the most popular top wood for steel-string acoustic guitars, beloved for both its projection qualities and broad dynamic range. Walnut, on the other hand, is used much more sparingly. Its lively woodgrain adds plenty of visual charm, and sonically offers you a mix of the bell-like ring of maple, dark warmth of rosewood and woody nuances of mahogany. All of this, combined with traditional hand-scalloped X bracing and a nitrocellulose Antique Natural finish, and you've got a solid instrument, especially for fingerpickers.

Advanced Response Neck
The J-45 Studio's Advanced Response mahogany neck is outfitted with a walnut fingerboard. The neck design is slimmer, with a flatter fingerboard, making it ideal for electric players transitioning to acoustic. A TUSQ nut and saddle ensures excellent transfer, while Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with kidney buttons keep it in tune longer.

L.R. Baggs Electronics
Making it a great choice for gigging performers or singer-songwriters ready to hit the stage, Gibson equipped the J-45 Studio acoustic-electric guitar with an L.R. Baggs VTC soundhole-mounted pickup. With worry-free performance, it gives you discrete, easy-to-use volume and tone controls to dial in your sound.

Studio Series
Gibson's 2019 Studio Series models offer players an affordable version of Gibson's most iconic models. Still hand-built with the same level of craftsmanship and detail as any Gibson, these 2019 models are more than suitable for home, live stage, or high-level professional performance. No shortcuts are taken with the Studio Series to ensure each of these guitars is full of expression, character and exquisite beauty. A fun Gibson that really pops.
I am a repair Technician at GC 599 Boston/Berklee and part of my job is to look over each of the high-end guitars delivered to us each week. I love a nice acoustic guitar and this J-45 just about jumped out of the case at me. Great traditional Gibson tone right out of the case, a wonderful feeling neck, beautiful fit and finish, and walnut tonewoods which are less common but sound and look great. To my mind this adds character--I love the idea of a domestic wood guitar with a smaller footprint in the rainforest. The body is slightly shallower than a standard J-45 which changes the dynamic somewhat, combined with the wood selection the guitar has a focused and fast response that feels big and fresh. The slight lateral arch in the back feels quite comfortable as well. Curves tend to eliminate standing waves, so this design will probably be a gem to record, with even response and less hollow boom to work around. Sporty. The final fun feature is it is priced well below the mahogany J-45 making it a value. As stated I work at GC, so take all this with a grain of salt, but it is worth a trip down to your local shop, doesn't matter to me where you browse, and check one out. Gibson is back in the business of making really nice affordable acoustics. -David Rizzuti, Repair Technician

Not impressed!
I'm not sure if it came from the factory defective or if its this model, but this guitar made me want to cry. And not in a good way. When it is in tune it sounds amazing and warm. Yet, a little too warm. The factory strings are way too light of a gauge. I thought about putting new strings on it but I just took it back. It was brand new which I understand the glue smell, but it was so strong it gave me a head ache. Grover is known for great tuners but the ones that came on this particular guitar were bad. The guitar refused to get all the way in tune. It looks beautiful. But it leaves alot to be desired. My hope is that it was just defective. I ended up with a Martin around the same price. I love my les paul and have never had a problem with it.

I bought the J-45 Studio about a year and a half ago. I don't play out much anymore. I'm retired now and just enjoy playing this guitar at home, with friends or doing a few annual reunion type gigs. I also use it for recording. It's just SO comfortable! I love the smaller size while still getting great tone and plenty of volume to keep up with the dreadnaught players. The pickup also sounds fabulous! It has a very pure brightness played near the bridge and a super round & full tone when played up towards the sound hole, with or without the pickup. Plenty of bass without being clobbered by sludge. The notes are precise. I lowered the action a bit. Approximately .055". Now it plays perfect without any buzzing. I left the nut slots alone. Great guitar, good price!
Best guitar I ever played

I must've gone through 40 guitars in the last few years (thankfully GC has not banned me from the store!). I have played everything in that time, mainly focusing on Martins. Martins are great guitars no doubt, but difficult for me to play - maybe I just feel guilty about playing such a fine instrument as a 3 year beginner. Last month, I went to GC with my newly acquired Martin, which had proved to be very hard to play (for me - I'm not knocking Martin at all!) and the guitar itself was uncomfortable. I wandered into the acoustic room, played a few more Martins and a few Taylors. The Gibson J45 Studio caught my eye, and I decided the try it. 30 minutes later, I traded the Martin for the Gibson and I think GC will not see me again for a while. The J45 Studio has a crisp sound, a good thump and it very easy to play. The walnut back and sides give a nice rich sound. The neck is very comfortable and the over-all experience has been really fun. I look forward to practice now with this guitar. If the Gibson acoustics are this fun and easy to play, then I may be a Gibson man after all!

I own three different Martin type Dreads and have always wanted a Gibson type acoustic as most of my electric guitars are Gibsons and I am a fan of the tone/feel they seem to go for and the pay ability of the short scale. I never played a J45 that I really loved the sound of, they always seemed a little dark or woofy.....though, I am comparing them to Martin/bluegrass style flat tops. That being said, all of the new slim/walnut J45 type acoustics from Gibson that I have played have been superb! Exactly where I wanted to be tone wise. The G45s I have played were a bit brighter and less complex in the mids than my J45 studio, but still very nice. I couldn't be happier with the tone and feel of my J45 studio. It isn't as loud as my D28, obviously, but it is beautifully voiced.......clear, sweet, warm, brash....it's all there based on how you pick it. Oh, and it's just as suited to fingerstyle as it is to flat pickin'. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! The price on these is bound to go up, just like the J15s did!
Wow!

I had wanted a new acoustic electric and had been going through a search for something that sounded as good plugged in as well as unplugged. Well I have found it! I am usually a Rosewood Body player and have shied away from maple and other woods as they sound to tinny to me or at least not as well rounded on the low end. This is a Walnut body and I actually like the sound and I know as it ages it will only sound better as most solid wood guitars do. Solid wood all around and the L.R. Baggs pickup...WOW! sounds awesome. Try one!

My uncle taught me my first cord on his from the 1950's. This one is a trip back in time! All I can say is try one for yourself. I love mine and can't keep my hands off of it!!!! Just need to have the action set up the way I like it, factory settings are to high.

Where is this blemished j45 located. And what is the defect? 190839750532
Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what the blemish is. However, it would only be a minor cosmetic flaw and would not effect the guitars play ability.
