I own this guitar, a 2002 L5 Wes Montgomery. I own several guitars and I play mostly jazz. Let me tell you that this is one sweet ax. The quality of the wood is as good as any jazzbox I've ever played and believe me, I've played 'em all. Talk about killer tone - The solid spruce top with the 57 humbucker is creamy smooth and warm. The 5 piece neck has a perfect profile for complex chord shapes and silky fast runs. The solid, carved maple back and sides are flamed out !!! The finish and paint job are perfect. The binding and inlays are spectacular. This is a jazz benchmark to which all other archtops can be measured - and it will measure up indeed. Play it out of Fender tube amp with long spring reverb and you've got the quintessential jazz combo. This is the guitar that every jazzman either owns or wants to own. It is expensive but just hold it in your arms and you'll feel why. Just owning it is a privilege. The action and playability are top notch. One word of caution, though. If you take this baby out of the case in front of people - you better know how to play it !!!

Played through a Fishman acoustic amp Strung with D'Addario flat wound chromes Play several guitars in a row and then play the L-5. The tones are beautiful and everyone I've played for has picked the sound as their favorite. The action is set low and is effortless. Nothing quite feels like the sensation of the vibrations from the back of this quitar entering your midsection as you play. I'm sure you can find more expensive woods, but this is the tightest, straightest grain in a tone wood I've seen. Small nit...at first the fret board seems busy with the huge pearl inlays and black white black purfling. Sometimes when I look down at the strings, they are lost in the background.

This would have been made in the last few years, we won't know the exact date without the specific serial number.
