Bluesboy Tribute a HIT!
This is my first G&L, and this tribute model is not my last! In my mind I had thought of these as just another cheap guitar, not so. While an overseas produced guitar, unlike other USA based guitar companies, they do have some USA parts, but the guitar itself is great out of the box! Took to a gig as is, performed as well as my USA made guitars, in fact, I played this guitar all night. I actually like the sound of the pickups compared to other guitar I have similar to this one! The tuners do not feel like cheap asian parts, very smooth and tuning was a breeze. the neck feels good in the hand, the frets are large enough for some serious bending without fretting out and not dragging on the fretboard, as I have several brands of guitars the gloss on the neck doesn?t bother me, but if you like a satin feel, scotch bright can fix that. The ash body is so resonate you can feel air movement from the f-hole, the finish is very nice, the grain in the wood is very much pleasing to the eye. The bridge is as it should be, perfect, easy to adjust, if the need arises, and has that vintage look and feel. The controls a little stiff, but are smooth and accurate. If you are a tele fan you will love this guitar, if you are starting out you will love this guitar. If you want an american made guitar but don?t have the coin, you will love this guitar. From Jazz to Classic Rock to blues, this guitar can do it all! To name this guitar ?Classic? or ?Bluesboy? seems to me inaccurate, because the versatility of this guitar goes way beyond what the name implies,

Terrible workmanship. The edges of the f-holes were sharp and the entire guitar was covered with a layer of saw dust. It amazes me that someone at the factory, I don't care where it is, didn't see this. Shame on you G&L for allowing this to occur. I returned this the next day for a refund. Will buy another brand. I'm really sorry that I didn't get a chance to experience a true G&L instrument as described by other reviewers.

First off, the woods and finishes on this guitar are beautiful, and the neck is perfectly sized for my hands. The plague of little shallow C-shaped necks has driven me crazy for years, and this has a deeper C-shape and feels wider than most currently available guitars, plus great frets. I've owned a few Telecasters over the years (including a Thinline), and they get a bad rap for being overly twangy, and that can be true if you are too heavy on your attack. I know I'm reviewing the G&L, but this looks like a Telecaster, so I wanted to point out some differences. I've played in a number of fusion bands, and I've always loved the John Scofieid vibe: jazzy, but like dirty martini jazzy. Just enough drive on the amp so you can get more or less growl, without a bunch of stomp-boxes. I liked when I could stay right on the edge, and go a little jazzy or more rock tonally just from the instrument. I always found 335s and Les Pauls ideal for that sound. I have had a lot of fun playing around with this G&L's various sounds, and it provides a huge palette of options. But it's almost like playing three completely different guitars. The bridge pickup is crisp and you can make it scream, depending on what you play through, but it doesn't seem to have the same teenager raging ball of hormones fierce sound like a Strat or a Les Paul. The middle position gives a nice balanced sound. But the neck humbucker has the overly warm sound of a big jazz box. It's almost too warm to be on the same guitar. I have a Zoom processor box, and I have a few custom presets to compensate, depending on what I need. Minor complaints, which are actually positive. Cons: it doesn't like to stay tuned sometimes. Also, the fret dressing is bad in the higher range. Not tendon shreddingly sharp, but a little more filing would have been nice. Overall, a sweet hybrid guitar. Plays great out of the box, but can take a little work to get the sound you want. I'd recommend it, but test drive it first.

I recently purchased this guitar and quickly fell in love. I have an American Pro Fender Telecast and this G&L Tribute ASAT Bluesboy feels just as good. The weight is nice, the frets aren't too sharp, really it's great right out of the box. On top of all that the red burst finish is off the hook! I absolutely love the bridge pick up, it's bright but still punchy and full with OD and gain. My only gripe, and this is a subjective thing some people may love it, is the neck pickup humbucker is super muddy on the low end. When playing chords E A and D all kind of melt together and any hammer ons or flourishes are just kind of drowned out by the muddy bass sustain. It's not "bad," I have heard worse humbuckers from the $100 to $300 dollar range, but it's definitely not gonna blow your socks off in my opinion. It's probably right what you would expect from this price range. Although my AmPro is still my number one, overall though this guitar is ridiculously nice for the price, and has definitely jumped to my second favorite guitar. Highly recommended.
This is one sweet guitar.

When a guitar speaks to you, you know it is a keeper. This one is a keeper. The feel, the sound, and everything about the G&L Fender Bluesboy hollowbody is excellent.

These half-caf semi-acoustic electrics are a breed unto themselves. Usually you either have to lay out big bucks for a Fender special order or make do with a Squier. G&L quietfly evolved out of Fender some years (decades?) ago. G&L is where the guys who founded Fender went when they sold Fender. And they make a better guitar than Fender does (at this price point). I needed an electric that played like an electric, plugged in like an electric, but that you could hear enough - in straight acoustic situations - to sing along... to hear the key and melody. I've got a big booming Martin, incredible guitar I bought from GC as well. It's an awesome acoustic... that the neighbors don't need to hear at 2 am or for 4 hours straight while I work out a song. Got an old Samick (or something, Korean guitar) that was one of the first acoustic electrics on the market, built like a tank, good for home defense and the rhythm track. But you can't just pull those out, strum along any time you want, compose any time you want. And this guitar is pretty. Very pretty. I saw no external flaws, none. Paint, perfect, joints, perfect, lines, perfect, electronics, intriguingly powerful, no buzz, no loose sockets.
