G&L Placentia JB Electric Bass Vintage White

Description
This JB projects a time-honored and subtly progressive vibe that embraces the past while also being unafraid of moving forward. The slim, hard rock maple neck features a classic gloss finish, while its comfortable 9" radius and medium-jumbo nickel frets deliver modern playability. What’s more, the JB features an innovative Leo Fender-designed Saddle-Lock bridge to transfer string energy right into the body end-grain for an incredibly resonant instrument. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back.
The Placentia series is named after the location of G&L Guitars—which sits on historic Fender Avenue, running between Fullerton and the city of Placentia. The series offers iconic G&L designs, as developed by Leo Fender, with the addition of some more traditional parts.

Nice Bass per Price Point
Mine came in new cond. well packed box. Upon original inspection, I couldn't find any flaws. Further inspection & checking action , if any string buzz, control knobs, etc. , I was shocked to find no flaws again. Action was perfect for me but perhaps a tad high for some, was really shocked that neck adj. seems spot on, intonation was Very close, not even enough out to fool with. Strings were actually almost still perfectly Tuned out of the box!! Overall opinion of bass; Pick-ups sound as par Jazz Pickups used in Most other Fender & G&L bass's, I'm lucky enough to have a good array of each! The body wood does seem a little lighter but that is a welcome feature for a lot of folks, especially older bass players with bad backs! The lighter wood didn't seem to effect resonance or any projection difference than heavier wood of my 7 other Fender or G&L bass's! Frets were fine with no buzz , but did feel a tad grainier than some of my others but no sharp edges, perhaps just need a good polishing/dressing! (minor stuff there!) My vintage White finish looks great with Tortice-shell finish! It's looks, stance , bridge, etc. , really looks more of the older style 60's Fender Jazz, simple & basic but very functional! Doesn't have slight upgrades as put on Fenders throughout the years & not as much upgrades such as a modern ASAT G&L or American G&L, nor American Fender Jass Bass! So overall, very surprised & pleased with mine! The Maple neck & Fretboard are very nice as well! This is built for a Bass Banger that looks very Vintage with good solid sound & for any style music & for Beginner to Experienced bass player that just wants a true workhorse banger for any venue or practice! Especially on a shoe string budget! Maybe I lucked out with mine but with this, I might consider selling a few of my other bass's! Better in my opinion than same priced Squire Basses, which even they have come along way! Solid Investment & No Regrets or Regerts lol! Thump On!

Very Disappointed
Looking at reviews and visiting the G&L website, I was convinced that this would be a worthy competitor to the comparably-priced Squier Jazz Bass. A marketing video on G&L about this guitar line, the spokesman makes statements regarding quality control that are very misleading. Expand my photos to see the poor workmanship at the neck pocket and fret grooves. Advertised built in Indonesia but clearly stamped "Made in China." Quality-wise, this guitar cannot compete with Squier. I really wanted to like this bass but it will go back.

OK, there's a lot of negatives about this guitar. The tuners completely fall apart frets frets are sharp in the bridge has a built it auto adjusting feature while you play. Positive is absolutely love the sound of these pick ups, and I have modded it to fit my needs.
Maybe?

This bass is amazing. It sounds amazing and has more of a punch then a squier 70 vibe and all around fells better. I would recommend taking off the neck and putting duck wax on it to make it shine and make if smoother

Is this recent "Placentia" (bad name!) specific to GC/MF/etc? What is the difference from the "Tribute" series?
Yes. The biggest difference I see is the bridge.submitted3 years ago
