I bought this device after reading all of the great reviews. I bought mine at Guitar Center in December of 2024. It came missing the USB C cable and I've had nothing but problems with it. I've contacted Focusrite, and they sent me the missing cable. But there are all kinds of problems with performance. It conflicts with other drivers on my Windows machine, causing click sounds, or delivering audit in a way that sounds like a CD skipping, sometimes continuing to play sound but continuing to play the skipping part. I bought this to replace my MBox 2, which worked phenomenally well right out of the box. I was forced to upgrade because there aren't supported drivers for Windows 11. Stay away from this poorly engineered piece of junk.
I absolutely love the 4i4

I upgraded from the 3rd gen 2i2 and i've noticed that my guitar DI's sound a lot cleaner in the low end. my 3rd gen sounded more muddy during low palm mutes and i feel like they've really improved that issue. The preamps are a bit cleaner as well. The design looks really cool and it it's not hard to learn the new controls. Just a heads up if you're powering by USB only, it HAS to be USB-C on both ends. if you use the adapter it will not work unless you have it plugged in with the power cable provided.
Works great

I prefer to use Garageband than Ableton, as I am just starting out. Do I have to use Ableton for this to work? I'm still learning.
No, you don't need to use Ableton Live to operate the Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 (4th Gen); it's fully compatible with GarageBand on macOS. GarageBand supports Core Audio devices like the Scarlett series, allowing seamless integration without requiring additional drivers. Setting Up the Scarlett 4i4 with GarageBand Connect the Interface: Plug the Scarlett 4i4 into your Mac using the provided USB-C cable. Select Audio Device in GarageBand: Open GarageBand and navigate to GarageBand > Preferences > Audio/MIDI. Set both the Input Device and Output Device to "Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen". Create a New Project: Start a new project and choose an Empty Project. When prompted, select the appropriate track type (e.g., microphone or instrument). support.focusrite.com Configure Track Settings: Enable Input Monitoring to hear your input in real-time. Activate Record Enable to arm the track for recording. Adjust Input Settings: Use the gain knobs on the Scarlett 4i4 to set appropriate input levels. If using a condenser microphone, ensure phantom power (+48V) is activated. For more detailed guidance, you can refer to Focusrite's official setup tutorial for GarageBand.submitted9 months ago

I asked the same about the 2i2, "Does this allow me to use two mics and two instruments simultaneously to create four separate tracks at the same time in a DAW?" If not, what product would?
