Gregg Foreman Demos The California Series Villager 12-String | California Series | Fender

Gregg Foreman Demos The California Series Villager 12-String | California Series | Fender

Description
With its authentic "hockey stick" headstock from the 1960s, the Villager 12-string joins the ranks of Fender's California Player series acoustics. Originally introduced in 1965, today's Villager 12-string has been updated for the modern player's needs with a gloss black finish, comfortable cutaway Newporter shape and high-quality Fishman electronics. Acoustically, this solid spruce-topped guitar offers all the chiming resonance you expect from a great 12-string.

Case sold separately.

Bracing
Scalloped bracing is thinner than more conventional bracing. That means that the bracing pattern inside the guitar uses less wood, which means that soundboard mass is reduced. This lets the top resonate more freely, resulting in better tone with more nuance and greater projection.

Electronics
A Fishman Isys III pickup/preamp system gives the Villager 12-string peerless amplified performance, with a variety of onboard controls and no compromise whatsoever on pure, rich and resonant acoustic tone. The built-in tuner is conveniently placed right where you can see it, helping to keep your intonation right on the money.

I learned to play guitar on an old 12 string. I have not owned a 12 string in 20 years. I love this one. I did have the issue of number 3 string jumping out of the nut. I bought a $5 Fender string tree set and installed them to cover 1, 2, 3 on the high end and 10, 11, 12 on the low end. I play it heavy handed every day for a couple hours and it has not had the issue since.

This is my 1st 12 string and it certainly has NOT disappointed at all. I adore it. It stays in tune well, has a gorgeous sound and was priced incredibly well. If you want a good, reliable starter guitar to get a feel for a 12 string, then I highly reccomend this one.

  • Great guitar, decent price!

This is my second villager and I beat the first one like a drum all over the country (Utah, Montana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois) with The Snarlin' Yarns in dry and humid climates. The high E strings and the top B pop out of the nut when strummed too hard but I had a luthier cut the nut a little deeper for the Es and I back the top B through the saddle/tree. I also wind them down toward the headstock on the machine heads and that seems to do the trick. There is great consistency between the two and I use them both extensively for practice, stage, and on The Snarlin' Yarns' recordings "Break Your Heart" and "It Never Ends" from Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, Mississippi. Big shout outs to Fender and Guitar Center for the great gear.

I love the fish man tuner built in and the neck size is perfect. I dislike the nut, it's too small and they didn't file the string slots deep enough. Therefore while I play it the e string pops out and into another slot. So I have to stop playing to put it back, also the guitar was awfully setup to the point the neck was bowing up. I wouldn't recommend buying this guitar online and recommend trying it before buying. Probably an inconsistent model.

I play this guitar as much as I play all my other guitars combined. It's built well, the body isn't too bulky. The neck is like butter. The tone is a little thinner than that of other 12 strings, but it is still very playable. However, there is the issue of the 3rd string popping out of the nut. It's too bad that Fender didn't compensate for that and include more strings into the little bracket on the headstock. Make that thing a little wider to pick up both A and both B strings. I compensate by being aware of the problem and not getting too crazy.

Every time I pay it the strings pop out so I always have to use a capo. I got rid of my previous guitar since I got this one and the strings kept popping out during a gig. Wouldn't recommend getting mostly because guitar center always says "can't do anything about it"
