Description
Fender introduces a new model of what is surely one of its rarest-ever instruments, the semi-hollow Starcaster Bass. Only a handful of prototype models appeared during the mid 1970s, unusually distinctive as the only offset semi-hollow bass guitar in Fender history (to say nothing of its two enormous humbucking pickups). After decades of virtually fabled status, the Starcaster Bass now reappears in electrifying Modern Player form with superior sound, build and beauty ideal for bassists with a flair for appealingly unconventional Fender style.

The Fender Starcaster Bass guitar's thin semi-hollow offset body has a bound maple top and back, with stylish bound f-holes. A short-scale bass (30"), it has a "C"-shaped maple neck topped by the distinctively curvaceous Starcaster headstock, and a 9.5"-radius maple fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and black-dot inlays. Other premium features include dual Fender Wide Range humbucking bass pickups with three-way toggle switching, four skirted "amp"-style control knobs (volume and tone for each pickup) and a four-saddle Fender Hi-Mass bridge.

Sent back this bass twice, I can't believe Fendar doesn't have better quilty controll for the products coming out of China. Thankfully the folks at GC were great.

  • Affordable, easy to play, sounds good.

I use this in a cover band. Looks and sounds great. I get compliments on it pretty often from musicians. I does feel a bit cheaper than my '62 remake P-Bass, but that bass cost almost twice as much. Also, I replaced the tuning pegs because I was having issues with it staying in tune. But overall, I like it.

Looks are a 10 and love the fat tone after changing the horrible strings it came with for a set of La Bella Deep Talkin' Flats. Knew it was going to be heavy for the reviews and boy is it. Get yourself a wide and padded strap. Now the part I wasn't expecting......when I plugged it in, there where issues right awy with it cutting out. Big bummer for me as there is a 2 month back order for a new one :-( Trying to figure out what to do, headed down to GC now.

  • Very Unique Bass Style

I am not a professional bassist. I am barely a novice bassist. Basically I am a drummer that wanted to play bass sometimes just for fun. That being said, I think this bass is great! Completely original - you don't see anything like it anywhere else. I love the retro look. It sounds good, and plays well. I have no complaints at all. I made a slight adjustment on the E string Humbucker screw on the neck pickup to increase the volume and I lifted a knob that was going to rub on the top. Very happy with my purchase! Guitar Center came through with a sweet discount just in time for the holidays, too!

  • I am very pleased with my new Starcaster Bass.
