This is best used with a head that has a dedicated "tuner out" port, that way, you don't have to plug directly in to it. When it gets a signal from your amp, it will tell you how in tune you are without muting or having to unplug your guitar. It's really only good to have if you have a tuner out option, otherwise, get a $30 hand-held chromatic tuner, you'll get the same effect.
2 concerns

Good solid tuner for $100 plus. great brushed aluminium front panel and cool blue LED's, large red LED for note indication. You can use Boss FS-5L for foot pedal muting. Quick and acurate tuning, my only 2 concerns are....When the unit goes into sleep mode (Blue LED's flashing from left to right) you have to power cycle it to wake it up and if you loose power the audio signal does not bypass through to your amp, (now that may be the case with all rack mount tuners I don't know) it just cuts out until power is back on.

I have a Boss TU-2 Chromatic tuner also I use and it works well, but this one breaks it down a little finer when tuning. and being a rack type tuner, It's up and out of the way instead of getting knocked around on the floor. A little pricey in my opinion though, but you only have to buy it once.
