The Perfect Fender P Bass

This is not just an all black Fender P bass is not just clever marketing. This is probably one of the best sounding modern P basses I ever played. I am not sure about the pick ups in this bass, but they seem "hotter' than what's usually in Fender P's. It may have something to do with it being a limited edition, I am not sure. I have two other P basses and this one is louder than the others by far. Its a shame these will only be available for a limited time. The playability and craftsmanship from this MIM instrument is up there with the American Made basses, I was pleasantly surprised.
Solid P-Bass, Tricky to get one in decent condition.

It's a P-Bass. It sounds and plays like a P-Bass (I love it). Currently running Thomastik (JF344) flat wound strings on it. At 0% tone you get a nice and warm thumpy tone and at 100% tone you get a slightly brighter funkier tone with a little bit of a growl. It's a simple yet effective tool to get the sound you want. This came with fender round wound strings that are versatile and good enough to play until they die though. One thing to keep in mind is the open buzzing on the A string. This is due to the angle at which the A string sits on the nut and ties to the peg (or lack of angle since the issue is that it's a straight shot between the nut and the peg). Fender sells a Stealth Retainer that is pretty expensive that can resolve the issue and there's other cheaper aftermarket ways to go about it. Cheapest and least invasive solution is to just add an extra wrap or two to the A peg to make sure that the string sits as low on the peg as possible giving it the slightest angle to the nut. That seems to work for me, though be aware that this typically tends to happen on lighter gauge strings more than heavier gauge and all basses might vary between each other so sometimes the buzz is there and sometimes it isn't. The included pickups sound great, I'm not even sure if you'd want to upgrade them but I don't think I will personally.
Great looking bass!

I recently purchased the Fender pbass special edition black with ebony bass. Great weight, satin neck, ebony fretboard is sweet. I had my luthier address the fret ends. Nothing cutting but I like them a little rounded off. Strung it with some LaBella flats and it plays great. Pickups are standard pbass so I will likely upgrade them for more range. Mind you they don't sound bad at all. I just know a hotter pickup will be the icing on the cake of this beautiful bass.

A setup and a couple other changes and it's been added to the stable. Great neck and solid build.
This is a great guitar.

Looks great, feels great, sounds great. I've been looking for an all-black Precision Bass for some time and this one is it for me. The ebony fingerboard is a wonderful element of this fantastic guitar. I'm looking forward to gigging with this guitar for some time to come. Glad I bought it.

I recently acquired one of these at my loal GC. This bass looks fantastic! The ebony board is super comfortable to play and it sounds like a pbass. Good weight, looks and plays great. neck is comfortable w/ satin finish. Matching headstock sets off the look. Very happy with it.

What would you recommend for an Amp with this bass? Will be used for smaller venue gigs, e.g. mainly beer halls and larger saloons as well as some outdoor gigs.
"mainly beer halls and larger saloons": Acoustic B300C 1X15 300W Bass Combo With Tilt-Back Cabinet --------------"some outdoor gigs". We're talking night and day. Think about adding a cabinet.submitted3 years ago

I have heard things about the pickup height "out of the box" being awful in some cases, are these rumors true? And if so, can guitar fix that?
No, they're not, but they are adjustable if you're not happy with their height upon opening the box.submitted3 years ago
