My Favorite Guitar
I wanted to give a full review from a year in. When I first bought this guitar, I decided to finally get serious about playing, and so far, I've done some jamming and a little playing with experienced to professional musicians, and it's never let me down. I've picked up two other guitars since (a Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar and a Gretsch Electromatic), and while they're great guitars in their own right, this one manages to be the one that's the least fuss: stays in tune, dead simple controls, clear, bright sound. I love that it is a solid, classic telecaster, and delivers its trademark sound. I've done work on all of my guitars - the Jaguar needed a shim, a really common adjustment, and the Gretsch needed some sanding down to fix the oddly fitted backplate, but all this needed was some fret filing, which was fixed by $15 worth of tools from StewMac, and maybe an hour of work. Admittedly, the tele I chose had some of the better fretting than others in the players series (there are some with quite sharp frets), but I went and filed down the sharp ends and rounded them off, and now it's very smooth and comfortable to slide your hand down. Honestly, with just that little tool investment and an hour of time, it's more like having a guitar in the next range of what Fender offers. However, since I know this guitar is more expensive than quite a few mid-range series, I'll have to deduct some points for what I otherwise really feel is a five-star guitar, since many others offer very comfortable frets from the get-go - but not too many points, since looking at what I have played and bought in a year, it still outshines them in other areas of quality and sound. I play through a Marshall DSL40CR, with a fairly standard pedal chain: compressor, tube screamer/boost, distortion, reverb, chorus, etc., along with the built in gain channels, and as a telecaster is a real workhorse of a guitar, it sounds great in a wide variety of genres. Love this guitar!

Great Guitar but needed some heavy Luthier work
Fender is apparently known for subpar frets, but this one was all over the place. I had fret buzz on various random frets all over the neck. If you're willing to spend another 200-300 bucks to get this thing worked on by a pro, then go ahead and purchase, but if you want something better out of the box, use the 200-300 bucks to get a higher end fender. The guitar itself is a beauty. The neck looks and feels good, not too fat, not too skinny. The pickups sound like classic Tele pickups, and you can get a wide range of tones. If you're a beginner I would highly recommend you not get this guitar. If you're a hobbyist or pro and you know what you're doing, then go for it.

I love the surf pearl finish and the neck is very comfortable. It sounds the way a telecaster should. I play live most weekends and it performs flawlessly. The only thing I did was adjust the intonation. I would definitely recommend this guitar for anyone on a budget.
I would buy another guitar of the same brand again

This special edition telecaster is fantastic. I own 20+ guitars including Gibson USA and Fender American models costing thousands and this Tele performs in-line with those more expensive examples. The only thing it needed out of the box was minor intonation adjustments. Great guitar!
Nice finish

No frills, good Tele. Mine needs some fretwork, but it's good otherwise. Bridge is straight, neck and tuning are stable, tuners are serviceable. Truss, action, intonation all needed love but that took 20 minutes. Would buy again.
I love the color

The guitar is well built and nicely finished and it sounds like a single coil Telecaster should. This is the second Player Series fender that I have bought. The set up out of the store was deceit, but needed a few tweaks as the truss rod was set for too much relief. The Surf Pearl is a really cool color. It is a light sea foam green with an added metallic content. It looks great. It would be nice if the guitar included a case or gig bag.

What does this guitar weigh
All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be approximately 7.5 – 9.0 lbssubmitted4 years ago
