Not to shabby for a MIM
I'm an old Fossil & been playing guitar & bass back when Jimi H. was alive & giging, so, don't know it all, but seen & played more than my share! This limited color Player Fender is a Beauty IMHO, Fit & Finish was very nice , I only gave 4 stars because this poor baby needed some serious attention to set up out of the Box! It's a hit & miss with these now days & guess it depends if the Set Up man at factory is taking a long Seista or called in sick that day! All bridge adjustments out , out of phase, strings to high ^ Neck tension extremely to lose! But after around an hour or two & a few cuss words, It finally all came together! Yaa! Pick-ups are sweet, can growl, really Thump down low & even enough high end to pop or spank it if ya like! Tuners were pretty stiff, but have seen this in past & with a little time should smooth/ease up. Neck is sweet also & smooth as a baby's butt! Frets feel good, got it to there was no Buzz with Neck Tension adjustment! But for around half of what a higher end American P-Bass cost! It's easy on the eyes & more so on a thin wallet! I would recommend, but be prepared possibly to do some adjusting or if you don't have that knowledge, take it to a shop/store with a decent guitar /Bass Tech. to set her up for ya's! & Rock' On:!

Be prepared to pay for a set up, possible factory damage
Bass came shipped still sealed from Fender, meaning no multiple point inspections like most retailers. Yeah, you can return it within 45 days, but will most likely be longer than that before they get you another. And there is no setup done. Either learn how to do it yourself (including recutting the nut) or be told it would too long and too expensive for one of their techs to look at it. This isn't the first time this has happened for me. In short, prepare yourself for a set up from a trusted local luthier, and check over carefully for any shipping damage first. Once those are sorted, you got a solid guitar.

I can't believe how good this bass is. I've tried dozens of MIM Fender products over the years hoping to find one of the ones that everyone raves about and have always walked away disappointed. Not this time. Holy moly. What an outstanding value. Note: change the factory strings immediately. They're junk. Had so much buzz and rattle I was sure it had high frets or a neck issue, but checked everything over and it all seemed fine. So I chucked the Fender strings and put on some Ernie Balls. Night and day difference. Completely different bass. I was going to return it. I'm glad I gave it a shot. This thing isn't going anywhere. Sounds great, plays great. Took it to its first gig last night and everyone couldn't stop talking about how great it looked. It's got the trifecta. It's a keeper. I wish I could give it four stars, because I don't really believe in perfect scores, but when you stack up everything this bass has going for it, and then look at the price tag, it's a five star instrument.
I needed a strong bass tone for the band we have.

I play in A Americana music band. We play in Crown King and other places. This bass has the sound that is needed for the songs we play. Very happy with it.

I have over 15 bass guitars and bought this for a daily player. The fit and finish are exceptional. I was surprised how light it was when I picked it up. Out of the box it was playable and I only needed a quarter of a turn of the truss rod to make it just right. The elephant in the room is that it has significant "neck dive" and I surmise that since the body is light and the neck might be "green", this could be the issue. Therefore I got a Fender "high mass" bridge at a reasonable price to see if I can increase body weight and offset neck dive. A wide strap helps as well. The bridge is not too heavy but lets see if this simple mod can take care of the issue....
Great bass for the price

I bought this on sale at my local GC so it was a great deal. I was fully expecting to replace the stock pickup, but no. It sounds great. A little on the bright side but nothing a little tone rolloff or EQ can't fix. Great precision growl. Nice quality. Not quite as beefy as my '96 MIM, but nice. Cool color. I did a setup on it because it had a lot of relief in the neck and I will install a beefier bridge and change the pickguard (it looks cool but I want to differentiate it). But otherwise I'm quite happy.
Bought as a backup, became my main bass!

I own several basses including two active fretless and a custom 5 string jazz bass. I wanted the cheapest P bass that said "Fender" on the headstock, mostly for recording and gigs where other players expected to see something more traditional. I also wanted something super simple as a backup bass. One volume knob, one tone knob, no noise and no drama. When I opened the box, I was blown away by the quality. This is one of the nicest basses I've owned as far fit and finish are concerned, and a couple of my basses cost twice as much. I've heard Fender quality control is hit and miss. If that's the case, maybe I hit the lottery with mine. For recording, the bass needs nothing; just run it straight into the mixer. I run it with a flat EQ and a little compression. The tone knob does the rest. The bass arrived in playable condition, but did require a setup in order to get the feel right. I lowered the action, tightened the truss rod a quarter turn, and adjusted the intonation on one string. The E string also sounded a little dull until I set the witness point (all it involves is pressing down slightly on the end of the bridge saddle. This is something I do after every string change anyway). If all MIM Fenders play like mine, I'm not sure you can beat them dollar for dollar. I highly recommend this bass.

Been playing guitar and bass for lot's of years. Fell in love with the looks of it on the rack. Got to say I really like it. It has become my go to bass. I have a road runner hard case for it and I'm not afraid to gig it around or have it stolen. I have more expensive guitars that never leave the house. I'm pretty sure that any guitar or bass off the rack will require adjustment and setup. I just assume that. The MIM has really improved. I play everything from country to Jazz including rock on this thing. I'm able to get everything I need out of it without changing any components for now.

How much does the bass weigh?
All basses vary depending on the density of the wood . Even the same model can vary up to a 1.5 lbs Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Bass Guitars are generally between 8.00 and 10.00 lbs. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be about 8.5 lbssubmitted5 years ago

I'm a beginning bassist who likes the tone of a p-bass slightly more than that of a jazz bass. Are there genres of music that a p-bass is not good for?
This bass would work well for any style of music. Especially rock and blues. There isn't a genre this bass wouldn't work well for.
