Exploring the Player Plus Telecaster Models | Fender

Description
The Fender Player Plus Nashville Telecaster offers pro performance without the pro price. It combines the best of two worlds with a pair of Tele pickups surrounding a Strat single coil. Fully noiseless, they're geared equally for the studio and live performance. A flatter fingerboard makes it easier to play faster; locking tuners and a six-saddle bridge keep your tuning in-check longer. There's more under the hood of the Nashville Tele, though. Read on to discover if this guitar—available now at Guitar Center—deserves to share your spotlight.

Fender Player Plus Nashville Telecaster Main Features

  • Alder body with gloss finish
  • Maple neck with Modern C profile, pau ferro fretboard
  • Noiseless Tele single coils (bridge, neck), Noiseless Strat (middle), 5-way switch, push/push pot adds neck pickup to positions one and two
  • Deluxe cast/sealed locking tuners, string-thru body bridge with 6 block steel saddles

Classic Design

The utilitarian design of the Telecaster has withstood the test of time. On the Player Plus Nashville Tele, the body is alder, a tonewood that Fender has employed since 1956. Resonant with a balanced sound, it provides a perfect platform for the pickups to shine.

Noiseless Pickups

It was likely a Nashville studio cat who first came up with the idea of adding a Strat pickup to a Telecaster. The idea makes a lot of sense, especially for those that need a little versatility in their instrument. On the Player Plus, all three pickups are Noiseless Gen 4 single coils. Wound with Alnico V magnets, they're high output, too. You'll get classic Tele tones out of the neck and bridge, and signature Strat quack out of the middle. Thankfully, there's a 5-way selector for maximum sonic exploration; the push/push tone pot also adds the neck pickup to positions one and two.

A Neck That Stands Out

The neck on the Nashville Telecaster deserves special recognition. It has a Modern C shape or "flattened oval" profile that's more ergonomic than others. Rolled fretboard edges give it a worn-in-feel. Unusual for a Tele, the fretboard has a 12" radius, making it easier to bend strings without fretting out.

Updated Hardware

Once you've experienced locking tuners, you'll never want to go back. To change strings on the Player Plus Nashville Telecaster, just thread each string, lock, cut and tune it up. The six-saddle bridge offers more precise intonation than on a traditional Tele. Working in concert with the high-ratio tuners, your open strings and 12th fret harmonics will always ring true.

The Player Plus Nashville Telecaster comes with a deluxe gig bag.

This is my 4th guitar from GC. Always treated me well. The Nashville Telicaster I purchased was delivered at the Raleigh store. Came in as a new guitar in a box. I opened at the store to check for flaws. Everything looked great.

  • Love it!

Received Nashville Tele a couple of weeks ago it is a KEEPER! Plays like a dream and the wide variety of pickup selection allows for you to achieve the sound you are looking for. I have heard and read a lot of negative comments about GC ordering and customer service, this is the second guitar I have ordered from GC and both experiences were flawless. Fit and finish was excellent on both in-fact they both arrived almost in tune. Shipping was prompt and was updated on the progress through out transit. I would not hesitate to order again from GC.

  • Love my new Telecaster.

I ordered the Player Plus Nashville Telecaster from GC and picked it up at the store, still in the box. I had the sales person help me unbox it at the store, mainly because they hadn't yet received one for their wall. I took a casual glance at it, placed it in the gig bag and headed home. It wasn't until I got home to quickly realize there was an issue with the dials. No sound was coming out of the amp and only after I wiggled the volume nob that it would that the sound would go in and out like a short in the wiring. Also, one of holes for the pick guard was missing a screw and the high E kept popping out of the nut. As disappointing as these issues were, I realized they were minor, fixable and covered by Fender, so I took it to an authorized Fender luthier and I'll get it back in a couple of weeks. This is a lighter Tele than my previous MIM and very comfortable to play, especially with the contouring (belly cut). This is my third Fender with a Pau Ferro fretboard they are great! Has a bright, punchy sound. QC control issues aside, this is an outstanding guitar for the money, imo.

How much does this guitar weigh

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. I'm sorry but I don't have one to weigh. This will be approximately 7.5 – 9.0 lbs.

Is a Pau Ferro fingerboard in terms of feel as hard as Maple. Im aware that its harder than Rosewood. Also sound wise do you think the tone is better or softer than maple?

    Open Reply - Thomas
Other than ebony, nothing is harder than maple. Pau Ferro will be softer than maple but you wouldn't necessarily hear it.

Is this a brand new model? There are no reviews yet...But I have seen all of the promotional videos for the Nashville Telecaster. Excellent tone, it has that special country twang, but can be dialed back for a cleaner sound too. What are the stock strings for this model? I've been using 0.010 - .047s D'Addarios Phosphor Bronze on my Newporter, but I can't get enough string bend to play lead guitar. I am very interested in this model, but I want to make sure I'm getting the right model before purchasing. I would also like to know the string action at the 12th fret. I believe that the string height for the Newporter is 2.5, I would like to know what it is on this model. Purchase timeframe is within four to six months.
