Fender Jaco Pastorius Fretless Jazz Bass Guitar 3-Color Sunburst

Description
The Fender Jaco Pastorius Fretless Jazz Bass Guitar, paying homage to the visionary artist who revolutionized bass playing. Now you can experience the special connection Jaco shared with his well-worn Jazz Bass. Fender has painstakingly recreated every detail of Jaco's fretless companion, from the comfortable alder body and fast-playing rosewood fretboard to the vintage Jazz Bass single-coil pickups that produce the warm, fat tone Jaco was known for. The C-shaped neck provides a familiar feel for any bassist. With 20 fretline markers, you'll always know where your fingers are on the fretboard. This special tribute model even features an authentic replica of Jaco's neck plate. For bassists who aspire to follow in Jaco's footsteps, there is no better place to start than with his own iconic instrument.
Fretless Rosewood Fingerboard Glides Under Your Fingers
The rosewood fingerboard allows your fingers to slide seamlessly along the neck, enabling the speed and articulation that defined Jaco's playing. The absence of frets produces a smooth, singing sustain perfect for emulating Jaco's distinct tone. With practice, you'll be performing the same lightning-fast runs and harmonic techniques that made Jaco a legend.
Vintage-Style Jazz Bass Pickups Deliver Iconic Tone
The two single-coil Jazz Bass pickups are responsible for the warm, punchy tone that helped define Jaco's sound. Roll off the treble and crank the bass for a deep, dubby tone or turn up the treble and midrange for a funkier slap sound. The tonal possibilities are endless with this versatile pickup configuration.
Alder Body and C-Shaped Neck Provide All-Day Comfort
The alder body is contoured for maximum comfort during long practice or performance sessions. At only 1 5/8" thick, this lightweight bass is ideal for players of all sizes. The fast-playing C-shaped neck profile will feel familiar to any bassist.
Special Touches Honor a Legend
Authentic touches like the Jaco tribute neck plate and pickguard mounting holes pay homage to the "Bass of Doom" and the artist who made it famous. With this fretless Fender Jazz Bass, you'll be well on your way to developing the skills and tone that influenced generations of bass players.

Love the playability of this bass as well as the pickups. Tuners had to be replaced, they were not good. A string buzzes but I've ready that can happen. Strange none of my other 9 US Fender basses suffer from this. Also had to apply some copper tape to the electronics cavity because of crackling, noisy electronics. All minor things but worth noting. Still a great sounding. Playing bass!

This bass is absolutely beautiful. The finish is perfect. Out of the box the action is amazing. One of my favorite attributes of Fender basses is the diversity of sounds available from a simple 3 knob configuration and this bass doesn't disappoint. Will be putting rotosound round wounds on this weekend for that classic growl. Will update if that creates a significant action work over as I have unfortunately experienced that with a Fender P bass in the past. But as of this moment I am ecstatic with this purchase. Wish I had bought this bass a long time ago.

I am new to playing the Bass, but a professional musician on piano. It is my goal to play fretless. I am learning on a fretted bass but purchased the fretless because I want to simultaneously begin to lean the fretless. I have researched the best fretless basses in this price point and this model always came up as the best. I was lucky to find it on guitar center. No one else has it. I have been informed that it is discontinued - I don't know wether this is true or not. Im just glad I found it. It plays beautifully.

I had never played a fretless before buying the Jaco Pastorius Fretless Jazz Bass. All I can say is WOW! Not only is this bass great looking, it plays like a dream. I also own a fretted Jazz Bass and this is so easy to play - I just picked it up and started playing. It feels very familiar, but just a little different. As long as you play it on the fret markers the intonation is perfect. I'm sure this is one of the best fretless basses on the market. You can play a smooth and easy tone in the background, or step up front and make it sing and growl. The pictures don't do it justice, it looks as great as it sounds. The finish and workmanship are superb. This bass also comes with a tortoise pick guard and the bridge and neck pickup covers. Although I'm not sure why anyone would want to install these, but they come in the case just so you'll have them. The Jaco bass comes with flatwound strings, but I'm going to put Rotosound Swing Bass 66 round wounds on it as soon as I can. Then I think it will definitely have Jaco's sound. If only I could play like him. But now I have the right axe.

I haven't tried enough of them to offer an educated opinion about what's the best fretless bass out there. But now that I own this Jaco bass, I don't need to. You can play a smooth and easy tone in the background, or step up front and make it sing and growl. Picture doesn't do it justice, it looks as great as it sounds. Finish and workmanship are superb.
Best Bass I have ever played!

Right out of the box, this is an amazing bass. The first thing you will notice is the beautiful 3 tone sunburst finish. Next you will notice the awesome vintage j bass stylings. These compliment the bass very well. Above all else my favorite part of this bass is the growling fretless tone. This bass is well worth the price and I would recommend it to any bass player looking for a new fretless.

Does this bass have the coated fretboard to make it more resistant to wear from roundwound strings?
No it doesn't. Coating has nothing to do with protection against wear.submitted2 years ago
