I was considering several amps and after much deliberation decided this was the most versatile of them all. It really came down to the wonderful clean tones it produces. I like to play anything from blues to Zeppelin to Iron Maiden etc. I own lots of pedals and heard what a great pedal friendly amp this is. Well sure enough it sounds fantastic with all of them. If you are looking for a metal sound indeed you will need a pedal for that. The gain channel is solid for blues rock to a smoother classic rock but it is limited on its own passed that. Originally I had my heart set on a Marshall but it didn't come close to the cleans of the hot rod. Got pedals? Then this is the perfect amp for you!

I was originally looking at a 65 RI Princeton Reverb at my local Guitar Center. This amp was right next to it, and I decided to compare the two. I was blown away. I was not expecting such an amazing tone and reverb from this amp. The cleans really shine, even at high volumes. In the end, I ended up taking her home.

TRIED TWO OTHER AMPS BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS ONE. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR MORE DISTORTION THIS IS THE ONE! BUT ON THE OTHER HAND IT HAS THE CLEANEST SOUND. REVERB IS SUPERIOR. MY DRUMMER AND BASS PLAYER SAID THE SOUND WAS MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN BEFORE. I HAD A SOLID STATE AMP. THIS IS THE FIRST TUBE AMP I'VE OWED AND WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST AMP I WILL EVER BUY. FOR THE MONEY ITS THE BEST!

  • Well rounded sound, very versatile

This amp does indeed come with the Celestion "A" speaker, and a Fender limited badge. These items are not seen in the GC item picture. (In case your wondering) Verses the standard Hot Rod Deluxe III, this one appears to have a better built, slightly larger cabinet. ( I could be mistaken here, but I could almost bet on it) The controls are mounted on a chrome plate vs the standard in flat black. I personally think the chrome looks cooler and more vintage. The channel two distortion side is improved and sounds pretty dang rad. Gets you into classic rock territory. Metallica = not really, Joe Walsh = yes Channel one produces some very nice cleans. This makes it an awesome pedal platform. Responds very good to distortions and fuzzes. Best my fuzzes ever sounded! The effects loop can be picky about your pedal power supply. Inexpensive power supplies can cause a background hum. A 1Spot will pass, but a higher end supply will clean it up. I have played an SG, PRS custom 24, Strat, and Tele thru it. All sound great and the amp really lets their natural tones come thru. My pedals used with the amp have been: mxr evh phaser, mxr flanger, mxr carbon copy, OCD, TS808, jimi fuzz, dunlop wah....and all respond very well. This amp is loud. It can be used in the home studio, but maybe not the best for an apartment. It is certainly loud enough to sit by most drum sets. My closing thought is that this is a very versatile and great sounding amp for the money. Doesn't hurt that it looks great too. Kudos to GC and Fender on this one.

This is my first tube amp. I get all the hype, it's a much warmer, fuller sound than my Line 6 75 watt.
