The Ed O'Brien Sustainer Stratocaster® | Artist Signature Series | Fender

The Ed O'Brien Sustainer Stratocaster® | Artist Signature Series | Fender

Description

Ed O’Brien’s ambient, ethereal and orchestral guitar style is an essential part of the sonic identity of Radiohead. We partnered with this groundbreaking player to create the EOB Stratocaster — an instrument as unique as his sound.

This inspiring guitar is perfect for creating lush, layered soundscapes and finding your own creative voice. The EOB Stratocaster offers a wide palette of tones thanks to its Seymour Duncan® JB Jr. humbucking bridge pickup, Texas Special™ single-coil middle pickup and Fernandes® Sustainer unit in the neck position. The Sustainer works some technical magic to create near-infinite sustain on one or more strings, making it easy to achieve thick, textured sounds. The Sustainer’s controls include an on/ off switch, intensity control and three-position switch to select the mode: Fundamental-only, Harmonic-only or Blend.

A mix of modern and classic, this Stratocaster features a 6-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, a “10/56 V” neck profile, 21 narrow-jumbo frets, a synthetic bone nut and a special neck plate engraved with a custom “Flower of Life” emblem. The EOB Stratocaster is the perfect tool for players looking to find their own creative voice.

  • Can't fault a signature model for not....

Can't fault a signature model for not being my preference. I personally hate the neck. Feels awful to me, but that is just my preference. I can't give it less "stars" because of that, others may love it. I gave it a 4 star because the neck was misaligned, and that seems to be a common issue with these. After I swapped the neck out this guitar is awesome. Pickups are great. The sustainer does less than I thought it would, but that is probably a good thing. What I found I like it for is getting very well controlled feedback.

Saw this guitar and it looked interesting, I always wanted to try out the sustainer system anyways. I haven't bought many Fenders but the ones I have came setup very well. This one did not. There was almost no fretting the D and G strings between the 15 and 17 frets and the other strings buzzed quite a bit everywhere else. Minor detail, I know how to setup a guitar. Secondly I found the JB Jr. to be a bit too much mid to mid high, not a quality that needs emphasizing in the bridge position, imo of course. I swapped that out for a Dimarzio DP218, super distortion in single coil size, and that took care of the tone. Something else I hadn't thought of and if I had done my research on it it still wouldn't have prevented me from buying this guitar is the sustainer system itself. Oh it works well. Long standing sustain that you can also dial in by way of pots on the board itself. The thing I hadn't thought was that in order to get an output from this guitar you need a 9 volt plugged in. Doesn't matter whether you're using the circuit or not, no 9 volt, no sound. I designed a bypass circuit for that though so now I can use at least the bridge and middle pickup without wearing the battery out. The neck took a little getting used to but I like the thickness of it now. I will eventually be swapping out the vintage tuners too, they are a bit of a pain to restring with. The tone out of this guitar is pretty amazing and there are so many to choose from that are a product of the bypassing circuit. I really have come to love this guitar but it was a work in progress to be sure.

This guitar is wonderful. Good build quality and great sound from a very unorthodox electronics setup. While the Seymour Duncan JB Jr and Texas Special pickups will cover most of the basic tones, the sustainer system is what makes this guitar shine. Whether you play with overdrive/distortion, effects or just clean, this guitar offers tonal possibilities you can't get from a normal Stratocaster. The neck is fatter than what I'm used to, but still very comfortable to play... it didn't take long for me to get a feel for it. My only real complaint with this purchase is that it does not come with a hard shell case. The gig bag is nice, but at this price point a hard shell case should be standard. Would get 5 stars if it came with an actual case.

Good novelty peace but was very disappointed with it. The sustainer is very weak the neck feels like a Squier neck. It is a very thick baseball bat neck which I do not mind on a good Les Paul. This guitar has a very cheap feel to it. It does play okay but I think it's maybe $300 overpriced bring down the price point it would be worth it.

I bought this guitar because of the sustainer pickup it has. I am a big Radiohead fan and I know what kind of sounds you can get out of this pickup. The pickup is more versatile than I though. You have an independent level control knob for the sustain. You can do sustain, 5th harmony, and octave harmony with it. I expected the Seymour Duncan humbuck to sound good. I was not expecting to like the Tex Mex special pickup as much as I do. This is one of the most versatile guitars available. I would highly recommend.

Hello. I have 2 questions about this guitar. 1. Do you have any in stock I could come play? 2. If I wanted it customised when I buy it, can you do that? Thank you.

You would have to check with your local store if they have it. If not they can have one sent to you. And the customization depends on what you're looking to get done. They can work with you on that as well.
