he wanted lemonade...

By jacobislegend

from cambridge, MN

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

The 72 tele is more than a looker, it is a tone monster. With a warm bucker up front and a hot single in the back, the tele is more than dimensional. Leo wanted this guitar to sound like lemonade, a sour sting with the coil and a sweet warm sustaining bucker. That's exactly what he got too. I've played a 73 original custom and I've owned a 72 ri, they are very similar, great action, great tone, everything you could want from a tele and then some. The four knobs help structure the core sounds and give you nearly limitless options. My 72 had a tunning stabilalty problem, other than that the guitar was great!

Monstrous Tone

By 81blues

from Grandfield, Ok.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

I have been playing this guitar solid for three years now, it has been beaten, bashed, dropped, gigged, and even thrown, and it still has the most profound tone I have ever laid ears on. I replaced the bridge single coil with a humbucker and it never fails to give me the exact tone I am looking for. As for looks, I love it, it's immediately recognizable as a tele but it has its very own flair. I have owned two other tele's, two strats, and a gibson sg, and none of these have had the tonal teeth to stand up to my 72.

Just like the one I had in 1978!

By John - Near Milwaukee

from Near Milwaukee WI

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

This is a childhood friend that came back to me. I had the real guitar from 1978 to 1982 and I regret that I sold it. The tone, paint, chrome, action and everything about this guitar is like my old one. The pickups are very warm and round and bright. The humbucker in the neck position lets you play jazz and blues with great style. Almost plays itself! Great guitar...after 30+ years I have another burst Tele custom!

Kieth Richards choice Axe!!

By Big Dog

from Sedona AZ USA

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

Above was the reasn that I bought my Tele Custom several yrs back, and after many years of performing it has become the first guitar I reach for whether Im playing Rock, Blues or country! It has never failed to give me the exact sound necessary for all types of music, and I will say I replaced the rather "Wimpy", Fender bridge pickup w/ a "Seymor Duncan Hot Rail", and replaced the "Notorious wont stay tuned Machines/ w/ Gotch locking ones, other than those few flaws, and a little lowering of the action, it has been a "Solid Workhorse I can always depend one GET ONE !!

A great, classic guitar.

By Matt W.

from Durham, NC

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

Some reviewers on other sites have complained about the pickups and the tuners on this guitar. I haven't had any issues with either; the guitar has to be re-tuned occasionally, but no more than any other guitar that I've played. As for the pickups, they do what they're supposed to do. The humbucker gives you the thick, more harmonically complex sound, while the bridge gives you the Tele scream. If yours isn't screaming, perhaps you need to change your amp and/or pedal settings; I play through a pretty mediocre Peavey Express 110 that I bought back in 1995 with Boss Super Overdrive and Digital Delay pedals. It sounds fantastic to me. This is a great guitar. Yes, it's made in Mexico. Yes, you'd be doing more for the American economy if you bought an American Special (a model that I also own and recommend). For the money, though, this is a fantastic instrument and if you're seriously thinking about buying one, I'd say 'go for it.'

Nothing Like It

By Michael

from Chicago

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

There's nothing like this guitar. Sweet with a nice bit of chunk because of the Humbuckers. Plays well. The original tele bridge sets this apart from many of the other current tele models

I would definitely purchase again....

Comments about Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar:

Classic.... and Improved!!! My first impression was...cool, a really nice Tele!! Then it was soon followed by... this playes nicer than I imagined. The tones are pure rock, blues, jazz. I was unsure about the neck radius until I gave it a good set up....now I know what a 7.25" radius is... comfortable and natural. Only changes I have made are upgraded the saddles to Titanium Gotoh.
Improved the intonation and tone seems more organic... bit more sustain too!!
The Bridge pickup is hot and punchy. The neck WRHB needed a bit of tweaking.
Adjusted the poles to the radius of strings. This has less output in the neck position but has a tonal quality that's perfect for blues!!
Overall, this guitar rocks and will be a keeper!!

I have two American teles and this mim is just as nice ...i really like this combination of pickups. I had to tweak the neck alignment and action a little also needed to adjust the toggle switch these things aren't a bother for me .I think I got a good deal and the gig bag is real nice
