Great guitar ... doesn't come with Fender accessories
Really happy with the guitar, went with the black body and rosewood fretboard, and the guitar looks great. My only disappointment was that the American Pro didn't come with any Fender accessories, which are included with the American Standard and American Elite models. With the increase in price compared with the American Standard I expected to get some nice perks. It's a minor complaint, and doesn't take anything away from the guitar, but just disappointed with Fender considering the price and the name. I did send a consumer complaint to Fender but haven't heard back yet.

Disappointing at this price level
For a guitar at this price point I was expecting a lot more. You really are paying for the name, because there are a lot of other companies making Strat copies that are cheaper and can actually stay in tune, AND have electronics that are compelling and fun and not stuck in some varnished image of the past. It's beautiful to look at and, when it stays in tune (which is rare) plays and feels very comfortable. I thought the varnished maple neck would get gummy and slow down my fingers but it's not a problem. Unfortunately that's about where the good stuff ends. I've already mentioned the tuning problem. Honestly why the American Pro doesn't come with locking tuners is ridiculous because every professional working guitarist has locking tuners. The bone nut looks like it was shaped with a chain saw, and it's slotted too deep and pinches the strings. Horrible "craftsmanship." That's easily fixable with a Tusq nut but why on Earth this isn't standard gear is beyond me when they're proven to work better with non-locking Trem systems. The Shawbucker in the bridge position is supposed to be low-output and voiced like a PAF, but really it's just flat and dull sounding and needs either layers of effects to make it stand out or a serious amp with a lot of body. Again, why we're here is a mystery when SD and DiMarzio make passive humbuckers that are staples of rock music. All in all I'd say keep looking. For this kind of money you could get locking tuners, a Tusq nut, a roasted maple neck, and some serious pickups, not a dull throwback cashing in on its name.

Fantastic guitar

I owned and played this model Strat in a band for 3 years, played live once a week, practiced once a week. It always stayed in tune, changed strings often so that helps because I played a lot. The V-mod pickups sound fantastic, balanced and you get so many classic tones, depending on the amp and whatever effects you use. For the price this is a fantastic guitar. I have since traded it in, don't play in band any longer. Then I decided I need a strat, bought a Player series MIM classic 60s strat. I have no problems with this instrument.
Fender got it right with this American Professional model.

I will use this in our church worship band; the setup is nice and the grain of the Sienna burst finish is absolutely stunning---that's what drew me to the guitar first, as I bought it used. I did put walnut oil on the fretboard, which adds a richness to the color of the rosewood and is good for the wood. The pickups are a bit lower output in the bridge(designed that way), but no worries---I just turn the amp up another number higher. Plays well, intonated well. I have 9.5 gauge strings on it.

I am a beginner/intermediate guitarist. I purchased this guitar as I really liked the feeling and playability of the guitar (demo at the store), the quality of the guitar construction, and the guitar's tone. I find that the neck (deep C?) and fretboard (9.5" radius) fit my hand very well, and the narrow tall frets seem to improve my accuracy and speed when strumming chords or soloing. The fret wire is glass smooth all the way through the fret ends. Though I was apprehensive about the narrow tall frets (reviews on the internet), I find sliding is very smooth, and maybe easier/more accurate than lower fretted guitars (its a lighter touch than with lower frets). Bending, hammer-ons, and pull offs, as expected are great with the taller frets. I find that I can now accurately play high on the neck (great intonation) and am enjoying the light touch of the tall frets. The body of the guitar rides really nice either standing or sitting.
Far better than I expected!

I play on my churches worship team and this guitar has made a huge difference in how my guitar reacts to my playing. It has more punch than what I have played in the past and helps bite through the sound of the band on the lead riffs. I was also blown away by the versatility of the guitar. Fender has nailed it with this model of strat and this is why I choose to play it.
