Patrick Droney Introduces The American Performer Mustang | American Performer Series | Fender

Introducing The American Performer | American Performer Series | Fender
The Fender American Performer Mustang Rosewood Fingerboard electric guitar is an innovative take on the iconic offset electric guitar. This short-scale instrument blends the authentic Fender tone and feel with contemporary features for inspiring playability.
Yosemite Single-Coil Pickups Provide Expressive Tone
The American Performer Mustang is equipped with Fender's Yosemite single-coil pickups, which produce rich and dynamic sounds perfect for any playing situation. The flat-staggered pole pieces increase output while the shellac coating allows the coils to breathe, resulting in controlled feedback and a wide range of tones.
Modern C-Shaped Neck Offers Supreme Playability
The American Performer Mustang features a modern C-shaped maple neck that provides exceptional playability. The 9.5" rosewood fingerboard radius and 22-jumbo frets allow for comfortable chording and effortless string bending. The 24" scale length makes extended stretches and complex chords easily accessible for players with smaller hands.
Vintage-Modern Mustang Bridge Anchors Strings
The American Performer Mustang includes a vintage-modern Mustang bridge with grooved saddles to keep strings securely in place during energetic playing. The bridge contributes to the overall tone and performance of this short-scale guitar.
Additional High-Performance Features
Other premium features of the American Performer Mustang include an alder body for balanced tone, Greasebucket tone circuitry to shape highs without adding bass, and ClassicGear tuning machines for rock-solid intonation.

Major disappointment

I wanted to love this guitar, but honestly, it's a major disappointment. From build quality to tone, it just doesn't cut it. Build: There's a noticeable gap between the pickguard and the chrome control plate that looks like a factory reject. The fit and finish feel sloppy for a guitar in this price range. The satin neck feels uninspired — smooth, sure, but lacking any character or joy to play. Pickups: The Yosemite pickups sound thin, harsh, and lifeless. They lack warmth, clarity, and dynamic response. If you want that classic Mustang bite, look elsewhere because these won't deliver. Playability: The neck is subpar and doesn't inspire confidence or feel special. For a short-scale, you expect a bit more mojo. Overall: For the price, this guitar is awful. It's a forgettable, mass-produced instrument that doesn't justify its cost, especially compared to vintage or Japanese-made Mustangs.

Mustangs are generally not viewed as a must-have in the Fender lineup, but for what it's worth, this one is very well made. The vibrato is far better than the one on the Squier Mustang, and the set up feels great right out of the box. #sweepstakes

I no longer preform in bands this was for reminiscing. The feel and comfort of the Mustang guitar, speed of the neck, and of course the sound that only that style of tremolo can give.
Amazing guitar

I just bought this guitar about a week ago and am absolutely in love with it. I bought the satin blue which fortunately doesn't look green like the stock photos on the website. It's actually a light satin blue, almost white. It's a beautiful guitar that just sound so awesome straight through my 5 watt tube amp. It has such a nice crisp sound. My favorite settings are the neck and middle pickup positions. The tremolo/bridge is thought of as a problem for mustangs in general but this American version has a new design that looks vintage that's not found on other models. The guitar comes with a tool and instructions to set up the tremolo/bridge properly. My holds tune without any problems without me having to do any setup. The 24" scale length and the small body makes this guitar super easy to play. You can make full bends with minimal effort. It also sounds awesome with a tube screamer or distortion pedal. I have had an American strat highway one for the more than a decade and yet this mustang has become my new favorite.

I love the sound of Fender guitars and their single-coil pickups. This is no exception. Its smaller body and neck make it comfortable to play. Love the middle position.

How much does the guitar weigh?
All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Even the same model can vary up to 1.5 lbs. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 10 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be about 8.5 lbs.submitted4 years ago
