Description

The Eventide UltraTap Delay/Reverb Pedal is a unique multi-tap effect pedal capable of rhythmic delays, glitchy reverbs, huge pad-like volume swells and extraordinary modulation. The perfect tool for staccato leads, swelling chords and other evolving effects, this Eventide multi-tap effect pedal even tackles reversed reverbs with no problem. Think of UltraTap as the mother of all Echoplexes and you won’t be too far off. That’s basically how it operates but with the flexibility to add as many ‘tape heads’ as necessary and expressively control their positions and levels.

UltraTap's controls make it possible to discover new and unexpected effects with all the controls you'd expect in a multi-tap delay pedal—Number of Taps, Delay and Feedback. Additional controls for Spread, Slurm and Chop open up even more sonic possibilities. "Slurm" is an exclusive and innovative control that smears/slurs taps together to create truly unique reverbs and choruses while "Chop" and "Spd/Rise/Rel" combine to allow unusual and expressive modulation of the taps based on LFO shapes or the audio's envelope. "Feedback" unlocks further tone shaping capability and "Taps" selects up to 64 taps to create simple repeats or morph delays into chorus and reverb. The "Spread" function controls the 'distance' between' taps. With the knob centered, the taps are equally spaced, turn clockwise and the later taps are bunched together, counterclockwise and the early taps are bunched together. Use this control to dial in the perfect rhythmic space between taps. Onboard LFOs and envelopes to chop the sound source into stuttered rhythms and  he "Tap Footswitch" allows you to set the tempo of the taps.

    This Pedal is cool. It has a plenty of parameters to configure to and a pristine sound. But definitely this is not for beginners or even for guitarists that are looking for a practical delay pedal. This is for engineers or real geek guys who deeply understand how to create sounds through different delay parameters. I honestly use it just for 1 or 2 presets. Actually, its swell effect was the one that conviced me to buy it. I got it used but now, I'm not sure if a should buy other one more usable than this.

    I'm extremely disappointed by this pedal. Not because of the sound; the sounds of this pedal are incredible, it perfectly emulates the UltraTap algorithm, minus the ability to make a reverse delay. The flaw with this pedal came from the build quality. This surprised me because I've owned a TimeFactor for years and it's been incredible the entire time, but the dot9 series is not holding up as well. I had three versions of this pedal over a month. The first two came from Guitar Center, the last one came from Eventide support directly (who are wonderful. No qualms with them.) All three exhibited a low voltage draw on the outside casing, meaning that if the device was powered on, you could feel a low current coming from the pedal if you held it in your hand. I attempted to use the stock power supply, a Pedal Power 2+ and a Strymon Zuma with it, and tried them in several different buildings and outlets, all produced the same experience. After that I decided to just return the device and got a Walrus Audio D1, if you don't need the UltraTap sound, I'd say just get that, if you do need it, save up and get a TimeFactor, or get something like the DD 200 which emulates it
