The ultimate snare sound
Finally a snare head that you can abuse and will also get rid of that horrable high end ring. My Pearl Reference snare is now alive, Everyone will notice the sound so buy it and try it, you wont go back to any other head.

Too Loud & Clashy
I Had Recently Bought A New Snare Drum, A Pearl Limited Edition & I Didn't Care Too Much For The Remo Head That Came With It. I Purchased This Head, Concerned About The Holes Around The Edge of The Head. Switched It Out With This Evans ST Dry, Tuned It The Way I Like It, & Started Playing Around With It For A Bit. I Thought It Sounded Too Loud, And Clashy, Like It Overpowered The Rest of The Drum Set. I Loosened It, & Tried It Again, Still Too Loud. I Replaced It Back To The Original Head That Came With The Drum & It Sounded So Much Better. I Wouldn't Recommend This Drum Head, Unless You Like The Loud & Clashy Sound of A Snare Drum.

The batter head that I use is the Gen HD Dry. That being said, my brother hits WAY harder than I do so purchased the ST Dry for him. It is a robust batter head. It is VERY similar in sound and response to the Gen HD but it is made for the more "demanding" hitter. That being said, I did put an Evans 200 Clear on both my snare (Varus 5.5 X 14 Staved European Beech and Olive snare) and I put the EXACT same resonant head on my brothers (DW/PDP Concept Maple {with wood hoops} 7.5 X 14 snare). That match really added some "pop" to the much heavier ST Dry making it, in effect, have a louder and not muffled initial hit. I don't know about how it would sound with a thicker reso head but the Evans 200 is the "marry mate" to this set-up in my absolutely humble opinion as I know sounds and feel are a drummers essence. For example....I got rid of every Meinl I owned and swapped them for SoulTone cymbals...I will never look back or regret that fantastic decision......Again....peronal sound. Buy this batter head for your heavy hitters. It's a win/win.

I was skeptical because I typically play double-ply heads, especially on the snare. I tend to be a heavy hitter. This head not only sounds great, but the attack is perfect!
I like this better than the HD Dry Head

I've worked recording and live for many years. This head ISN'T only for hard hitters. It cuts the overtones but still gives great tone and tuning versatility. No need for moon gel or damper. I use them on a Tama brass, a Walord bubinga and a pearl studio masters. GREAT SNARE HEAD!

I'm 48, playing since I was 14. Life never gave me too much opportunity to upgrade my gear, but I'm starting to now and doing my homework. I hit hard and heavy. Always hated hearing a twang or overtones when I hit snare. This took it all away. Got a great Black Friday price. This is crisp and clean and will be noticed. Nice reaction. Durable and haven't seen a hit mark on it yet. I won't try to sound technical like most people leaving reviews, so for the working class guy who plays out with his band 6-8 times a year I'm loving it so far. I have 1 gel on the skin but no muffling ring. Good stuff
