Ernie Ball Music Man
Description
The Ernie Ball Music Man DarkRay 5-string electric bass was designed in conjunction with world-renowned bass accessory manufacturer Darkglass Electronics to deliver a wide range of sonic capabilities. At the heart of the DarkRay is a modern 2-band EQ preamp with three modes: Clean, Alpha (tight distortion) and Omega (fuzz). Both distortion circuits are fully mixable via an onboard Gain knob and Blend control. Take your sound from astonishing clean, to slight gain, to brutal fuzz and everything in between, all with no low-end loss. Additional appointments to the DarkRay include an LED ring and 3-way lever to identify the current mode, plus a neodymium humbucking pickup, roasted maple neck, comfort contoured body, 22 stainless steel frets, matte black hardware and the familiar 4+1 headstock configuration.

This bass looks amazing in person! I used it mostly for practicing and jamming out. It sounds okay without the distortion on, basically just like a new stingray special without a mid knob. I really miss the mid knob to be honest. The distortion circuit is only usable in small amounts and when you turn it up even half way its just too much fuzz/loud noise. If you are collecting musicmans, go for it. If you want a new stingray special, avoid buying a darkray in my honest opinion. The color is cool but the electronics are not practical in a band setting and the missing mid knob is a bit of a let down.
