The Xenodrive stereo distortion/overdrive/waveshaper FX unit is a hardware effects processor built to radically reshape harmonic content while remaining deeply playable and precise. Developed by Erica Synths in collaboration with 112dB, Xenodrive combines analog gain staging, compression, envelope following, germanium overdrive emulation and a powerful wavetable-based waveshaper into a single stereo signal path. Multi-Stage Distortion Engine With Wavetable Waveshaping

At the core of Xenodrive is a deliberately aggressive yet highly structured signal path. Incoming audio is first boosted by an analog input gain stage (up to +24dB), allowing anything from guitar-level signals to line-level synths and drums to be driven into overdrive. The signal then passes through a compressor and envelope follower, feeding a germanium diode overdrive emulation with dedicated drive and tone shaping. From there, audio enters the wavetable-based waveshaper, featuring a 16×16 wave matrix that can both wrap and fold the signal depending on shaper gain. Envelope follower modulation can dynamically scan waves across the X-axis, creating movement that reacts directly to playing dynamics and input material.

Presets, Performance Control and Sound Sculpting Tools

Xenodrive is designed for deep exploration without sacrificing immediacy. Twelve front-panel parameters provide direct control over gain, drive, tone, wave selection, rotation, compression amount, shaper mix, EQ, noise gate and output level, while the OLED display and data encoder handle preset management and advanced configuration. The unit ships with 42 factory presets and supports up to 60 user presets, all savable and recallable directly from the hardware. Features like preset morphing allow smooth transitions between sounds instead of abrupt changes, and the built-in noise gate and stereo EQ help keep even extreme distortion musically usable. A configurable footswitch can bypass, trigger “Scream” mode or navigate presets for hands-free performance control.

Studio Integration, MIDI Control and Sonic Intent

Built for modern hybrid setups, Xenodrive offers balanced stereo inputs and outputs, DIN MIDI In/Out/Thru, USB connectivity for firmware updates and preset backup, and full MIDI CC control over nearly all parameters. This makes it easy to automate distortion, waveshaping and modulation from a DAW or external controller, or to integrate Xenodrive as a standalone processor in a live rig.
