The case is great, seems to be of good quality, and fits my bass perfectly. My only complaint is that it does not look like the case that I purchased. The photos of this case on Guitar Center's website are not photos of the case you will receive if you buy this item. Their photos show a rectangular case with four metal feet (for lack of a better term) on the bottom, the case that arrived is a weird trapezoid shape and only has three of these little metal "feet" on the bottom. Overall, I give Epiphone 5 stars for making a nice case, and Guitar Center "0" stars for not updating their website. What I received in the mail is not what is pictured on their website, that is kind of lame, disappointing, and bad business. But ultimately the differences are cosmetic and the case is very functional.

Note that the case that ships now is not the black rectangular case that is pictured. It is a dark gray case that is angled.
The case is nice looking, and has a very nice interior. It is perfectly formed to fit a Thunderbird, and provides a lot of padding all around to protect the instrument. Of course, in order to provide extra padding for a large bass, the case is very large and heavy.

The accessory compartment inside the case is very large and has enough room for sheet music or a music book as well as typical accessories (strap, cord, etc.)

The case I bought was supposedly new - not "open box". But, when I received it (in the original box, in a plastic bag inside the box), I found that it already had several scuff marks when I took it out of the box.

The case I received was poorly assembled. The alignment of the hinges and the latches seemed to be slightly off. The lid did not align perfectly with the bottom of the case, and the case did not close completely on the body end - there was a gap, and the lining was visible. Also, the latches were not tight. When the case was closed and latched, there was about 1/8" play in the latches allowing the lid to move a little - it was not closed tightly, which was a concern. I returned it, and bought a Thunderbird case from another manufacturer.

It is a good design, but quality control appears to be lacking.

GREAT CASE 4 A GREAT BASS !!

By Bill S.

from Fayette City, PA.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

If you own a Thunderbird, when it comes to hardshell cases, your choices are pretty limited. This case is made very well, it's rugged enough for a working musician, it looks really nice also! The only thing is if you own a Epiphone Thunderbird PRO like I do, you will need to do some minor modifications. Just pull back the lining and cut out the padding so that the neck fits in snug. Then just glue the lining back and it fits like a glove!! It only take about 20 mins. to do it right. I'm very happy with this case!!

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

When i got my thunderbird, this was the only thing it fit in. the t-bird is just too big for anything else, even the gig bags. if you want your t-bird to last long, get this case

This is THE case for your T-Bird

By Mark

from Natick, MA

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

Fitting a t-bird to a regular H/S case or gig bag is nearly impossible. This case does the job with style. It is durable, and (unlike the T-Bird itself) is well-balanced. It has a plush interior and good storage space. when first placing my bird into the case, it seemed too snug around the lower horn. But I gently pushed it down and it seemed to fit just perfectly. Don't try to pack your bird in a conventional Gig bag with the peg head sticking out! Bite the bullet and order one of these cases.

You wont be sorry Very nice worth every penny

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

I bought the epiphone thunderbird and they did not have the case in stock so i had to order it. I tried to find other cases but could not find anything else. So i though i would at least try it out. I MUST SAY very nice for the price. It does have a glue smell to it but all u need to do is let it air out for a while. in fact the other cases i had over the years had the same king of smell to them it is because of the glue they use to attach the inner linning to the case. nothing to worry about. it will dissapate over time or just let it set open for a while. Any way here goes my review, This case fits my bass perfectly. lots of room for books, strings, tuners strap and i have a (big leather strap) fits in nicely. it is well made, and is very nice looking. For the price you cant go wrong. The case is ballanced real well when loaded. I also like the purple plush linning in it it is so cool looking when my guitar is in it. The only problem is they did not have it in stock when i bought the guitar. and in the 3 weeks i had my guitar i put a little ding on if from not having the case. Guitar center had it on back order and i vowed not to take it anywere untill i got a case. Go for it you wont be sorry..

      Thunderbird Bass Case (Epiphone)

      By Scott

      from Fort Worth, TX

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

If yoiu have a T-bird Bass and you want something solid that hugs your axe, this is about the only game in town. Fortunately this is a quality case, has perfect countours for the bass, and it looks like the 5-string would also fit. The pro-version with neck-through might need a cushion beneath it to make it sit snugly in the neck rest, but that shouldn't be a problem. At this price you get a quality case, good locks and hinges, and a cushion contoured and covered in standard plush. Nicely done. The alternative would be to try and modify a coffin or other universal, more work for the same price.

The case I received is slightly different than the one pictured. The one in the picture is rectangular, while the one I received is tapered at the top. The interior is very plush my Thunderbird bass fits it very well. The material used to cover the outside looks to be less than durable if used in a touring band situation. I guess only time will tell. I tend to "baby" my equipment and gear so I don't foresee this as an issue for me.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

This case is not rectangular as shown in the picture; instead, it tapers down to a narrower end by the neck. However, that just gives it a cooler look. The cutout interior is super soft (gray velvet) and extremely well-contoured to the shape of the instrument. There is a roomy pocket under the neck--plenty of space for strap, picks, etc. The case is lightweight but feels very strong and well-made.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

If you just purchased an Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro bass and want a proper case, this case is a possibility, but it is a VERY tight fit. The case requires modifications for actual road or touring use as the oversized headstock is the fit issue. The case can be modified so that the E string tuning peg does not touch the edge of the case. A hard case should protect the instrument and this one will, but regular use may result in the need for replacement of at least one tuning machine.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Hardshell Case:

As other reviews have stated, the case that was received is not the case in the picture on the web. The case that was received takes the form of a large guitar, smaller on one side while larger on the other side. As other reviews have also stated, the fit can be worrisome. When my son first put his new Thunderbird Pro Bass into the case, I thought we were going to have to do some trimming to make it fit. A last, after some wiggling, he got it to go in but it is a very tight fit. My son loves the large compartment inside. It is large enough to carry his amp cord and music when headed off to guitar lessons. The construction of the case seems good. I have not noticed any issues.

There is no better case for the T-Bird bass. It fits mine as a glove and is made of very good quality. I read the other reviews in which they complain of the case not being the same as the one on the picture. I actually got the one that looks exactly the same as the one on the picture. I don't know why some of them are in a different shape. The only issue is that if you plan to put it in a trunk it will not fit. You will need to put it in the back seat also it is pretty heavy and adding to that the weight of the bass. But then again who said being a bass player was easy. Over all a great case.
