Overview

This model shares all of the same features and specs as the standard Hummingbird PRO except for its distinctive black finish.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

Was great until it broke... in several ways

It was a fantastic guitar, and i loved it. Sadly, mine must have been a dud, because it broke on the 3rd day :(

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I would not recommend this guitar for a soley acoustic experience. It has a thin - quiet acoustic voice that honestly does not sound as if it will open up that much, although I hope I'm wrong.
I happen to like it alot because if satisfies two of my "wants". 1.) a good looking black stage guitar 2.) a good sounding acoustic/electric for stage or studio use.
I got this on sale so I wouldn't return it. I'm satisfied for what I paid. This will not work for a campfire situation acoustically. Better get a yamaha or a seagull for that. This guitar sounds beautiful though my fishman loudbox mini acoustic amp.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my newest addition to my Epiphone Hummingbird/Dove collection. I can certainly tell that the manufacturer has made improvements over the years by comparing with my older models. Love the Ebony ! The set up from the factory was well done and compares to professional setups that have been done to my other Hummingbirds & Doves. Great tone and playability right out of the box ! The electronics are a plus as well as the tuners......get as loud as you want and stays in tune :)

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the one that goes with me when I travel. I put a little Orange Micro Cube in the case with her and it's party-busking all day and night. I did replace the strings as soon as I got her because let's face it, stock strings are never good on a guitar under $800, but I made a good choice and she's happy, too. I plan on upgrading the pins and the nut, but after that she'll be all done because the tuners are doing their job admirably. Oil the fretboard to darken it up and she's a fantastic looking machine to boot!

I had the Epiphone Dave Navarro signature acoustic/electric "Jayne" for a while, and aside from the ebony fretboard and some cooler inlays, I think the Hummingbird Pro is just as good and almost as sexy at half the price!

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played all kinds of guitars for over 13 years. This has to be one of the most fun and comfortable guitars I've held.

It came from the factory pretty well set up but needed some minor adjustments. I swapped the factory strings for some Elixirs and upgraded to wooden bridge pins. With those minor upgrades, the guitar instantly opened up and sounded like twice its price.

Sounds great plugged in, although lacking a bit of "boom" when played acoustically. The black finish is stunning! Get one. You won't be disappointed!

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I started playing guitar less than three months ago with an Epiphone DR-100 and I immediately fell in love with my guitar (for such an inexpensive guitar, it sounds quite well). However, there's something about my Hummingbird Pro that, even to my novice ear, makes the sound and the guitar-playing experience much more pleasant. The sound of this guitar is just so sweet and warm (I just can't wait for my fingers to move on those strings without hesitation, but I will have to put more hours to that end).

Overall, I am really impressed with this guitar. I imagine it can't compare to the Gibson Hummingbird, but it costs around 10% of the Gibson's price and I honestly doubt its sound quality is 10% of the Gibson's (but, again, I am not expert). I don't usually play it on the amplifier, but I tested it and it sounds deliciously clear (using a Fender Champion 20). Still, I enjoy its natural, unfiltered sound the most. It makes the experience of playing it more intimate somehow. Playing guitar, I am learning, is about connecting with the instrument... and I am certainly in love with this one.

Comments about Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for about 15 years and after graduating college and starting to work I stopped playing. I decided it was about time to pick the 6-string Back up and wanted to get an inexpensive guitar that looked good and most importantly sounded nice. The guitar has great sound right out of the box and a quick tune up and she was ready to go. Aesthetically it's gorgeous, my wife insisted we hang it up on the wall in the living room. I'm hoping over time it will open up a bit more and develop a richer sound. But for under $300 this is a no brainer. The only complaint was the lead time...close to 2 months but it was worth the wait. Very pleased.

                  Service and delivery comments:

Prompt delivery. When I called to ask to make sure it could be setup where I picked the guitar up (Cedar Hill, Tx) I was told promptly. "Nope, you get it as is out of the box. Anything extra will cost you" Luckily when I picked it up, a young man DID actually take the time to check it out with me. When I realized the batteries were dead in the electronics, I took it to GC in Arlington, Tx, and they hooked me with free batteries. Also bout a raid runner soft case and stand. Excellent service at the Arlington location. Wasn't impressed AT ALL with the phone call to the Cedar Hill location. Would've been 5 star had it not been for the the phone call.

Bought this to play while spending our summer at our cottage. Wanted something decent and did not want to spend a lot. Its my 3rd Epiphone and while its the least expensive of the others, it sounds great and plays easy...plus I caught it on sale which makes it sweeter yet. Arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It is a great looking instrument and fits perfectly into my fishing gear themed decor.
