I use this as a center piece connected to electronic drums, a vintage Prophet 2000, boss metal zone, and an art multiveb III via midi and audio connections. Something that amazed me is when I connected it to my laptop audio started coming from my stereo but my laptop wasn't connected to my stereo but my prophet 2000 was and my prophet was connected to my digitact, this allowed me to be able to sample right from my computer or the internet without connecting my recording innerface now that's the thing they don't tell you its a recording interface anywhere on the box or their online ads but it works like that too.

its a DAW in a box if you want it to be. the conditional triggers add for virtually limitless song lengths, on top of four 16-step pages per pattern, with 16 patterns available (maybe more, but I haven't really experimented with the banks yet).

I bought this because I wanted something more self contained than Ableton + Push. I'm not comparing the Digitakt to Ableton Live. I know Ableton is more capable for me raw ability standpoint, however i've been using the Digitakt much more over the past several weeks that I've had it than Live. In fact I haven't touched ableton live at all, so this evening I connected my laptop + push, fired up Ableton Live, and sat down to get creative. After about 30 minutes, I just stopped, pack everything up, and plugged in the Digitakt. My digitakt works. It's inspiring. It's quick. It sounds great. It's focused. It would be difficult to produce a song in the traditional fashion or format with a Digitakt alone, but when connected to any other gear (my iPad and multiple great sounding synths in my case) the digitakt is an amazing music production machine. I'm not getting rid of ableton live or my push. A big part of me wonders if the shine of the Digitakt will wear off after a few months and I will go back to Abel to exclusively. Maybe I'll find a workflow that incorporate strengths From Ableton Live and the Digitakt. They are different. The music i make with each is different. all I know is that right now the Digitakt is exactly what I hoped for. It's an inspiring instrument. What would make it better? Battery operation. Overbridge. Chord mode. More LFOs. Midi track control of the audio tracks. iOS app. What else did I consider getting? Teenage Engineering op-z (can't get my hands on one anywhere right now, so that's a moot point).
