Warden V2

EarthQuaker Devices

collapse expand iconDescription

The Warden V2 is an optical compressor with a feature set usually reserved for studio-grade units. Built with high grade components and internally powered by 18v, The Warden has loads of gain and sustain on tap. With complete control over attack, release, sustain and ratio, The Warden will allow everything from a heavy squash with fast attack and release to barely there subtle compression. Optical compression has a reputation for having more character than a VCA or FET based compression and The Warden is no exception.

The Warden is true bypass and handmade in Akron, Ohio.

EQD has the coolest looking packaging I have seen. One of the control potentiometers did not rotate all the way. The noise floor raised too much with the sustain before or after the buffer. Knob stopped around o'clock. I don't like that you can't use pancake patch cables because the input output Jack's are too close to the power port. This was the second EQD device I purchased and both were sent back. Not going to full me again. Wanted to give EQD a second chance because I love their ideas, love their options, love made in the USA, and love the creativity/musical taste of Dan Aurbach. I am from Texas, I can't get fooled again :D. I am a middle aged new guitar player with a long love of music and a lot of Technology Engineering experience, so my gear acquisition is at a very fast pace. I keep what is awesome and return what is not. Kept the Sugar Drive, Waza Craft chorus, Timmy, Flashback 2 x4, BlueSky, and Polytune 3. Ordered a Keeley Compressor Plus to be on the safe side. On to the search for an awesome fuzz like the SwollenPickle maybe. The first was the Plumes and it had too much noise without playing anything at all settings.

I've always hated compressor pedals for guitar. They act more like a limiter and squash all dynamics out. However, this Bad Larry can be as gentle as a giant or aggressive like your wife when she finds out you bought another piece of gear. There's nothing quite like it.
