Works fine. Easy to read numbers.

  • Okay for measuring in a room, not a case

I got one of the "Extech Hygro Thermometer Mini" and two of the "Oasis Digital Self-Calibrating Hygrometer" because I wasn't sure which would be better. I have three basses, so I was planning on using one in each case; the Oasis had lots of mounting options (a clip for mounting on the supply box inside the case, or velcro, etc.), but the Extech was basically just a use-the-tilt-stand or use-the-adhesive-strip style, neither of which will work inside a fuzzy surfaced instrument case. The receptors for measuring humidity are on the back, so I can't imagine mounting it with the adhesive and still having it get enough airflow to measure accurately. The tilt stand is nice, and makes it ideally suited for measuring a room. But it's not designed for the inside of instrument cases at all. If you're looking for that, get the Oasis--its design is much better (various mounting options intended for the inside of a case, receptor on the front by the screen, slim design to fit easily in a case, range of error in measurement is 1% instead of 5% like the Extech). The hygrometer on the Extech that I got generally reads 3-5% higher than my Oasis, so while it stays within its stated specs, it's not really accurate enough for my taste (protecting my expensive American Elite Fender Jazz Bass). The Oasis will also lay flat and measure a room, so I'd recommend buying the Oasis instead both for cases and for rooms, unless you're really attached to that tilt stand idea. The Oasis also lets you recalibrate it, which the Extech will not. Hands down, Oasis is a better option for only $5 more.

I set this on the counter so I can know the conditions my guitar is living in. Easy to use and read. Let's you know immediately if your guitar needs to go in the case for humidification. If it goes dead I would order another one.

  • I would buy this again

Its seems very sensitive to change! I'll open the bath room door after a shower and it senses the humidity change in the next room where my guitars are!
