Description

The Wolfgang Standard brings the style and huge tonal impact that Eddie Van Halen is known for, and the new exotic wood options add a touch or organic bling. This poplar burl-topped instrument sports a stunning finish as well as powerful Wolfgang humbuckers and a Floyd Rose Special for a serious eruption of rock-and-roll madness. The stable, oiled-finish, baked-maple neck is graphite reinforced and the rolled-edge, compound-radius, roasted-maple fingerboard is fast, fast, fast.

Been playing for almost 40 years. I'm impressed at the quality of this product out of the box.

I love the sound of the guitar and the playability. It is hard to put down. Once properly set up it does a great job of staying in tune. The action is excellent. I wish that the factory had been more careful in their inspection of the guitar. That is my comment on the delivery. It is not with the vendor, but rather the EVH Indonesia factory. The fix was pretty easy-once I realized what the problem was.

Though some aspects of it annoy me, I feel these Wolfgang Standard's deserve a solid 4/5. They have pros; they have cons. Here's my opinion: I bought my Wolfgang because, for the price, body, neck, pickups, trem - all pro caliber - Gorgeous look, quality sound, great trem; There are not many guitars out that deliver this much pro caliber for the price. So what's the cons? Well, as part of the Fender line, same with some of my recent Jacksons, I am astonished at how poor the factory control is. It's not the parts; everything under the hood of these is awesome, But, it's mind-boggling how poor the setup and finer finishing is on these: to point, here's the LONG list of setup I had to fix on mine: Intonation off by a mile as 2 of the saddles were not even tightened down, 3 of the fret markers (5, 15 and 17) were left high -could feel the ridges on them, and, unbelievably, glue was stuck to the 3rd and 4th fret, making the neck feel really rough on those.. So, I set the intonation, actually tightened down the saddles, lightly sanded the high fret markers and the gummed up frets with 2000 and then 3000 grit - total mint fix, great guitar underneath! But, get it together EVH/Fender/Jackson! You make great guitars, but you've got to get them out the door with better control. For me, it's easy to fix these minor things, but consumers should not have to! the guitar is awesome after those fixes though! Now, for stylistic notes: It feels closer to a LP than a Strat, to me; despite being the only Wolfgangs with body contours, they feel back more than my many Strats or Jacksons. It delivers that classic EVH sound, especially on the lower strings. Harmonics also scream. Oddly though, I find the B and High E highs just a little weaker than the lows or mids on these. That said, the mark of any great guitar is character, and THAT tone IS the character of these, so I do quite like it as a purposeful machine. Bottom line: odd bits to it, but still a great guitar!

This guitar feels great, sound great, but did not come as advertised. I do not even know what wood makes up the fingerboard. If you really want that feature I would suggest staying away from this guitar as the fingerboard is some strange wood (nice and shiny almost brown red wood) BUT not as advertised.

Awesome guitar. I don't know how I can go back to my other Wolfgang's. lol I have a Zilla burst, tri fade and blue frost. They are great. This one is a step up. The tone is a bit heavier. The neck is so smooth. Typically I add a brass block and disconnect the tone knob. You get a hotter and fuller sound. I don't think it's necessary with this one. It stays in tune. The finish is gorgeous. I am very impressed. There are some paint imperfections, but it adds character. Where the binding meets the paint, it has paint in places it should not. The neck is perfect though. So it's a keeper. The pickup selector is also backwards.
