I was in need of strings for my Fender Strat and thought I'd give these a go. While I like EVH I am not a disciple so I am not going to make a bold statement like "throw these babies on and you'll nail Eruption." Don't think it's gonna happen. I will say I disagree with the comments on holding their tune. After putting them on my Strat with standard locking Fender tuners (no FR) and stretching them properly I put them through some pretty hard classic rock playing after which I checked the tuning and found them to be dead on. I've had them on for ~2 weeks now and they are holding up great. Another feature I like is they seem to be more flexible then other 09 -46's and bend really smooth. The sound is solid, again, can't attest to the "brown sound" so keep your expectations within reason and you should find these strings a positive purchase.

Lets be fair. These strings are not what give Ed his sound. It's the pickup, the tremolo arm, and his amp. So don't expect to suddenly start playing "Euroption" as soon as you put them on. But if you got a "Frankenstien" or a "Wolfgang" and you want to be authentic, go ahead and buy them. But if gonna buy them to make your "Tele" or "Les Paul" sound like "The Brown Sound" than your out of luck. Buy them 'cause they are good strings and so you can show them off to your friends.

First off, I am the biggest Van Halen fan you'll ever find and have nothing but respect for the Brown Sound. That said, you won't find it in these strings. They're awful. They're constantly at odds with my Floyd Rose and I've yet to keep them all in tune without the Low E flopping all over the fretboard. And the strings that do stay in tune produce a tinny, whiny sound through the same settings that were cranking out near-Van Halen tone from Ernie Balls. This is my first experience with the EVH equipment line and I must say I'm not impressed. The only connection to Van Halen I see here is that only Eddie himself could make these things sound good.
