ESP

collapse expand iconDescription

The ESP LTD Kirk Hammett KH-3 Spider 30th anniversary edition electric guitar is modeled after the Spider 3 guitar that was played throughout the ’90s on tours supporting Metallica's 1991 The Black Album. ESP has crafted a striking, special-edition guitar in collaboration with Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. The KH-3 Spider pays homage to Hammett's favorite guitar with its familiar shape and sound, now updated with eye-catching aesthetics that Metallica fans will surely appreciate.

Menacing Looks Inspired by a Heavy Metal Icon

The KH-3 Spider's black finish provides an ominous backdrop for its spiders/skulls inlays. Mirroring the inlay is a spider silk graphic that stretches across the alder body, finished in a metallic silver that catches the light. The 3-piece maple neck features an extra thin U profile for speed and comfort, topped by a 24-fret Macassar ebony fretboard.

EMG Pickups Deliver Aggressive Tones

The KH-3 Spider is loaded with EMG Bone Breaker pickups for a range of heavy tones, from rich and full to tight and cutting. A 3-way toggle switch lets you select the neck pickup, bridge pickup or both at once. Push-pull volume and tone controls give you additional tonal variety. This guitar is built for high-gain styles and handles everything from crunchy rhythm parts to searing leads.

High-Performance Parts for Flawless Playability

A Floyd Rose 1000 Series locking tremolo provides dive-bombing effects and tuning stability. Grover tuners, an extra thin U neck profile and extra jumbo frets make playing fast, complex riffs feel effortless. The alder body resonates with sustain and warmth. All parts are carefully selected by ESP to meet the demanding standards of professional musicians like Kirk Hammett.

Special-Edition Collector's Item

As an officially licensed signature model and special-edition 30th anniversary commemorative guitar, the KH-3 Spider is destined to become a prized collector's item. Act fast to secure your own Metallica-inspired axe.

Was lucky enough to get the last one in stock at my local GC and it was sealed in the box. It was completely ready to play out of the box. All strings were in tune, perfect action height, no fret buzzing anywhere along the neck on any string, excellent intonation and sustain. The fingerboard was still slick and hydrated and smelled of lemon oil, except the scalloped frets, which were oddly bone dry and ashy looking. Wasn't a big deal. Have yet to find a single flaw. The ultra thin U neck is really fast and the high gloss finish stays slick, havent had any issues with it feeling sticky. Shred monster. I've been playing it daily since I bought it over a month ago. Being a very dark, super glossy black does make it a fingerprint and smudge magnet though. It is hard to keep it looking clean, but I personally did not buy it to look pretty. I play tf out of this thing. The guitar is a bit heavy, I start to get some back pain after about a half hour playing, but I also have pre-existing pain from work. So, wont blame that all on the guitar. Solid electronics. Smooth knobs, easy to turn. The biggest design flaw to me is the volume knob for the neck pickup is obnoxiously too close to the strings. With how easy the knobs turn, it's very easy to lower the volume of the neck pickup while plying. The floyd rose is a floyd rose, it stays in tune better than other FR guitars I've played, but be ready and familiar with tuning one. I keep the whammy bar uninstalled, more focused on tuning stability than dive bombs as I become familiar with a new guitar, just my personal preference. Overall, extremely happy with the QC of my copy, it truly seems like someone took the time to give it a proper setup before signing off on it, which should be expected at this price point but isn't always the case. If you're a fan of Metallica and/or Kirk Hammett, you can't go wrong with this guitar. It's not as popular as some of his other ESP signatures, but I prefer that.

ESP doesn't disappoint in any way! This guitar is one of my prized possessions, that I'll never let go! I've been a Metallica fan since the early 80s and now I own a piece of their history!

First about the EMGS. The bridge is not a 81. The old 81 had almost no dynamic elements and the bone breaker does. 2nd the neck pickup is the smoothest I ever played and pick attack is my favorite element of this thing. The finish is excellent. Mirror finish every time I polish it. Neck is more like a compound which I like better than the thin U . This the only ESP that felt compound thank you Guitar Center Nashville and the General Manager he is a great 👍🏻 guy!!!

The pictures on here do not do the guitar justice. The black finish is very shiny and reflective. The tone is HEAVY. If you like the Black Album, this guitar will sound like it through the right amp/modulator. This is a limited release so don't take too long deciding!

  • The perfect guitar for metal (at least for me)

I got this thing yesterday and let me just say it's perfect. It kind of has the shape of a Les Paul, with a Floyd Rose and 24 frets. It's super fun to play, kind of giving off a tone that's similar to the black album (especially the clean tone with the neck pickup on) One thing that I would say I kind of don't like about it is it's very heavy compared to the other guitars I have, although it's to be expected as it's a solid body. Overall, the best guitar I've ever played.
