ESP

collapse expand iconDescription

ESP first started in 1975 as a small repair shop in Tokyo, but toward the mid-’80s, their guitars and basses started to grab the attention of players around the world. The ESP ’87 series features faithful recreations of this set of instruments from ESP’s 1987 catalog. Unlike the current single-cutaway Eclipse shape, the original ESP Eclipse was based on the TE archtop, which is the basis of this LTD Eclipse ’87 NT electric guitar. This guitar offers neck-thru-body construction with a mahogany body and 3-piece maple neck. The ’87 Series Eclipse models also feature a set of Seymour Duncan ’59 (neck) and JB (bridge) pickup set (with original style bobbins and a push-pull control to split the coils), and TonePros locking TOM bridge and tailpiece.

Case sold separately.

I am a home player and I wanted a guitar that was not a strat, LP, or semi-hollowbody. I had tried a Dinky but was not in love with the Floyd Rose tremolo despite loving the body style, pickups, and color. I returned the Dinky and this had dropped in price to within 100.00 so I went for it. It is well-balanced, physically, and also tonally (JB/'59 combo).

Beautifully crafted in Korea. Stays in tune nicely with smooth ebony fingerboard and frets. Love the style. Pickups sound great and produce a variety of sounds to fit your style. I use mostly bridge pickup for high gain distortion. Can spit the coils for brighter twang. I don't find neck dive to be a significant problem.
