i've owned an original m2 for over 20yrs now it's an ESP not an E2 but thats neither here nor there anyway, my original (2nd owner) i LOVE & will never part with, it is the bolt on m2 not neck thru so theirs differences BUT i REALLY ENJOY the newr m2 truley inspires you to play & write. the sustain on the neck thru is 2nd to none & although the neck's got a little more meat on it than the original its EXTREMELY comfortable & very easy to play. i got mine 2nd hand & had to have some fret work done to get the action to my liking but hey big deal its like driving a super car now! people have hangups about the EII's but this guitars GREAT! IMHO it runs neck & neck with my JACKSON SL1 & its a high end exellent playing & looking guitar & should be judged by its own merits. great guitar!
A comparison between this and the original M-II

I have always been a huge fan of the old 80's ESP M-II and needed a new one. This is my first M-II since they switch to the "E" series. A lot of differences, but I am very happy with it. A few differences from the original.... 1 - The neck is quite a bit chunkier than the original but feels very comfortable. It kind of reminds me of my Jackson neck but a lot better profile. The 'neck through' and fact that it is a bit thicker lends to a lot more options with the set-up. I have never owned a guitar that I was able to set the action lower than I liked (which is very, very, very low) without having any buzzing or fret-outs. I have always had to level my frets on every guitar that I have played to get my action just right, but straight out of the box the frets were perfect! 2 - The electronics are perfect! I always have to do a few tweaks to get everything tuned in just right. The grounding and flip open battery compartment are incredible features and built like a tank. 3 - It is a bit heavier than the original, but just slightly. 4 - The contouring is a bit sharper at the arm rest, but just making a comparison. It is very comfortable. 5 - Locking tuners I thought were a bit redundant, but after several gigs it makes it faster to change strings... and any Floyd user knows that ANY second that can be saved is really appreciated. 6 - The flutter isn't as long as with the older ones with the flat head mounts, but that may loosen up over time. 7 - Back to the frets; they are jumbo but not as high as the older models. I had thought about re-fretting it with bigger frets (which I usually have to do with any other guitar besides ESP's) but the more that I play it, the more that I am really getting used to it. I usually have 2 or 3 M-II's with me for every show because of different tunings and now this has become my number one. I have an '89 that has always been my favorite and now it's funny that when I have to switch guitars I end up sighing...lol Long winded. Love it!!
sounds great, plays great, great all the way around !!!
