Amazing Results from a "presto" Pickup
I have been strumming a steel string acoustic Takamine for about 15 years. I thought of getting an electric recently but I've been hesitant because I'm not sure if I'd be satisfied with whatever inexpensive electric I could afford. Most electrics I tried that I liked were around $400 or more. But then I stumbled upon this little gadget. This product is extremely impressive for what it does and how easy it is to install. For anyone who ever had a nice acoustic guitar but wanted to try an electric without spending time and money selecting a new electric guitar should try this. You simply fit the padded device into the sound hole as described in the instructions and presto, you have an electric guitar. Plug into an amp or as in my case, a digital recording studio and you have an infinite number of rich electric sounds to make. You'll be pleasantly surprised because this will make your acoustic guitar sound very natural in a clean set-up or as raunchy as you want it with a heavy distortion set-up on your amp/studio/processor. It's amazing. Placing one of these in your favourite acoustic guitar is like getting a brand new electric guitar soul in the body of what you already know and love. It's totally awesome because this pickup will let you keep your acoustic sound even amplified, or enable you to live the freedom of a full blown electric guitar in all it's glory. To top it all off, you're using the legendary "humbucker" to do this - with absolutely no invasive action to your guitar. The clarity and richness this pickup provides is as beautiful as you want it. Yet, in the same manner, it has the ability to give you the mindblowing heavy electric sound when your sounding device is set up for such. This pick-up let's you have it all - acoustic or electric. Unless you need to show off an electric axe on stage, this little device will surprise your ears. I was totally blown away with the results.

Low output
I just returned the single coil for a humbucker thinking that it would have a higher output to my amp. I am using a Messa Boogie DC-3. Yea, I know - it is for electrics. Anyway, when you turn up the master volume, clean or dirty, you can finally hear your guitar. The sound quality is good but with too much hiss. I even went to the Guitar Center by me and plugged into one of their "accoustic guiter amps" and still had to turn it way up - almost all the way - same result. While it is a really nice sounding pick-up, it appears that it needs a pre-amp for better results. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I am not alone. Still a decent value for great sound reproduction.

Low Output but Fixable

This pickup sounds really good but the output is low and a bit noisy when plugged directly into an amp. I permanently installed it into my guitar by cutting the cable and adding a 1/4" strap socket. With an 18" cable, the noise disappeared and the volume increased. Low quality cable.

I was hoping for less noise .. I have used other Markley products but this one is disappointing.
Decent Sound in Open Position, Very Easy Install

The Dean Markley sound hole pickups are physically thin which makes installation as fast and easy as it is going to get. A perfect gigging backup pickup or for quick installation in a guitar you don't amplify often. As with most center soundhole mount passive magnetic pickups the output level is relatively low but good enough if you have a pedal to boost it. Tone wise it sounds quite good in open position. As you go up the neck, like most magnetic pickups, it sounds more electric guitar like. The humbucking coil seems to work well and it is quiet.
Great pickup!

I like the warmer sound of this pickup. Before you purchase this, you'll need a preamp to amplify & shape the signal. In my case, i run this thru a micro mixer & Boss AD-2 straight to a powered Kustom PA. Plus, you can't beat the 5 yr warranty of Dean Markley. I had to return my 4 yr old Artist Transducer ( XM Model ) and they replaced it no questions asked!
Great Buy

Does this pickup have a cord with male 1/4 inch jack ? Or can it be installed with a stapjack ?
Yes it does, and you can install it with a strapjack but you would have to splice the cable together that would run the risk of damage beyond use. I would recommend giving us a call at 866-498-7882 and we can help you find one with the strapjack.submitted6 years ago

Does the Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand acoustic guitar pickup require a pre amp or signal boost pedal to work properly. If so, what recommendations do you have? I see Boss has an Acoustic Guitar Pedal for $99 and TC Electronics has a boost pedal for half the price. Mel
It doesn't require a pre-amp, but for maximum control I would suggest getting one. Give us a call at 866-498-7882 and we can help you find the best one.
