Danelectro Original Factory Spec 1959 Reissue Electric Guitar White with Gold Hardware

I've played guitar for 35 years. Hendrix, Zeppelin, Yes, Rush, Simon & Garfunkel, Randy Rhodes, Yngwie, Eric Johnson, Van-Headache, Beatles, Doors... I also play Bass, Keys, Drums. Bought this guitar because I saw Page using it in a 1968/1969, black & white video on a small, boxing-ring style, stage in front of a polite, British audience on VH1. This is before Zeppelin got famous. I realized this guitar is where the tone came from in several songs including some from years later (where Page uses a slide). He used it almost exclusively with a slide. I believe it was probably his first electric guitar and definitely had a major influence on his style and technique. I was shocked when I first received this Chinese-made reproduction. I really hated it at first; but it was inexpensive. The construction is sloppy; but the design is so good that it almost doesn't matter. The body's hollow - made of plywood with un-named hardwood top and back. I noticed a slight gap where the pick-guard joins the body below the volume/tone controls on mine. I can lift it with my finger-nails. The screws securing the pick-guard and bridge on the top and neck on the back are rough and ugly. All the edges of everything have an un-finished character to them. The pick-guard appears to have been manually cut with a jig-saw with no finishing or sanding or polishing of the edges. These are all things that I can fix and improve. The finish (paint) is absolutely flat. This really doesn't matter on a stage in a dark club atmosphere. Actually, I've come to like it. The frets are very high; but the action is good - slightly higher than I would have it. There are mild buzzes in several places - especially near the 12th fret G and B strings. The scale is longer than any guitar I own (Parker, Gibson, Fender, Guild, Yamaha) and it is very difficult to access the 19th - 21st frets with any real finger control. It has an aluminum, internal, un-adjustable truss rod which worries me. It's fine now; but down the road it may require a new neck or a modification to the existing neck. When I first played it, it was very stiff to me. It felt like sand-paper: my hands stuck to the fret-board. It was also about 5 steps below pitch and relatively out of tune (environment: humidity, temperature, storage and shipping). Initially, I was afraid it would never hold tuning. After a dozen or more re-tunings... I must admit, it holds tune very, very well! I sprayed FingerEase on the fret-board and back of neck, wiped down with a cloth; and that helped a great deal with the initial "sand-paper" feel. I would take it to a true artist (like back in the good-old-days before MusiciansFriend and GuitarCenter and Mars Music) who can ground the frets and adjust the action. All in All, it's a great guitar with a unique tone (once you get a feel for this sweatshop-mass-produced, unfinished, sloppy instrument with an almost bullet-proof design). I highly recommend taking it to a true, professional, luthier/artist who can correct it's inefficiencies. However, even without that, it's a great cookie-cutter guitar. I've gotten used to it and have gotten some very nice tones from it. One more thing: best tone is with selector in the middle, neck pickup 100%, bridge pickup VOL and tone at about 75% and neck VOL at 100%/tone at 100%. These are single-coil pickups and very buzzy.

I received my Danelectro 59 reissue today and was greatly impressed. it really was a steal. I ran it through a Fender twin and a Vox AC-30 and it sounded great!!. One minor concern was that both pickup selector switches were loose (to the point of falling off), but that took about one minute to fix. Cosmetics look great. Doesn't come with a case or gig bag, but nonetheless, a great little guitar that sounds great and looks very cool. So, if you're looking for an inexpensive, great sounding single coil guitar - you can't go wrong with this axe from Danelectro.

i first saw this guitar in a catalogue and later bought it and let me say, this piece of wood is the bomb diggidy. the looks out of the box dropped my jaw. its classic, vintage, and unique. i love the lipstick pickups they have a real bite to them. the bridge pickup has a thin tone which is really good for indie, the middle pu can only be described as twangy mayhem and the neck has a great kashmir type tone. amazing guitar!!!!!

the only thing that i didn't like is that the strap button it in a awkward place you will have trouble putting a strap on and off . The knobs are very cheap and they fall off easily but it sound very good sound a lot like a telecaster very twangy and the tuner very vintage it is a very small guitar witch i like and i also like the finish

Buying online was easy. Guitar arrived on time. I got the exact model that I ordered. Guitar plays great. Frets are accurate. Tuning is precise. I played a different model in the store and loved it. A great little guitar for the price. Especially when using a slide. Love this guitar!!

This is such a cool guitar. Haven't put it down since I purchased it. The intonation is amazingly accurate. Who knew that little rosewood bridge could work so well. Super light body. Awesome!!!
