Danelectro Dead on 58 Longhorn Bass Black

I bought this bass about a year ago to replace my beginner, first act kinda deal bass. (pretty much a P-bass copy). I was looking for something unique and it had to be in my price range. I came across this wonderful instrument. With my old bass, my shoulders constantly got tired from the weight. With the longhorn, there's barely any weight to it at all due to the hollowness of it. Like the other reviews say, it sounds great. There's no buzzing or anything. The neck is also very thin and easy to play. My hand never get bogged down trying to slide up and down. The 24 fret range is great. And, unlike most basses where you have to really stretch you hand to reach those bottom last frets, you can hit all 24 of them on this beauty, no problem. The seller point for me was the fact that JOHN ENTWISTLE of THE WHO recorded most of My Generation on this bass. He's one of my bass heroes so that made me want this bass even more. The only complaint I have is the knob controls. I find them a bit complicated with the tone on top of the volume. But that may just be me, and its definitely not a big problem. I love this bass, and even if I had the money to buy some high end Jazz or Precision, I don't think I would. I actually have play a Japan made Jazz and American made Precision, and I personally prefer playing my Longhorn. If your considering to buy this, get it. Its worth every penny.

I tend to prefer the more conservative and time-honored designs with the big chrome features such as tuners and bridge covers of the old Fender basses. Wierd body designs and dinky tuners that look like discarded guitar parts don't appeal to me. When I first tried out the Longhorn Bass, I was amazed by the sweet tone, the playing action and the 24 fret range. If I was blindfolded, it would've been easy to convince me that I was playing a truly high-end bass. With all the basses that I already have, I would catch some serious deadly flack from my wife if I brought anoter one home, but if I had just one or two basses, I'd seriously consider adding the Longhorn Bass to my collection.. The reason that I haven't given the Longhorn Bass a 5 Star rating is that I haven't been able to subject it to a "gig test."

I took a big risk and ordered the Danelectro Longhorn bass (first time I've bought a guitar sight unseen) because I was fascinated with the funky look and intrigued by all of the positive reviews I read. The reviews were right- this bass is light as a feather (roughly the size of a Les Paul) and has as much (maybe more) boom than my Fender Jazz bass. I did not purchase the Danelectro to be my main bass, but it would absolutely suffice. I'd recommend the Danelectro to any bass player who wants to stand out without sacrificing the quality of his/her tone. An excellent bass.

I used to own a Longhorn from the 60's as well as several of the "reissues" that came out about 10 years ago.I had sold them all & was wishing I'd kept one when I heard about these.I bought myself one for Christmas & am pretty pleased with it.It's a very nice little bass & I'd say it's better than the older "reissues".It plays well & sounds great.I had to adjust the bridge a bit to get it to tune right but that took all oof about 10 minutes.It seems pretty solid & well made & is very close in looks to the originals.The only thing I'd say they got wrong is the copper on the finish is a bit too dark but otherwise it has the look,feel,& sound of an original.
