Danelectro

collapse expand iconDescription

Danelectro owner Steve Ridinger founded FOXX pedals in the 1970s. His Tone Machine was a huge hit right out of the gate, priced at $49. Today they cost $600+! Now he brings back his original Tone Machine with some important tweaks, including making the octave way more pronounced. The octave is foot-switchable, the tone is warmer and there is a "mids boost" toggle that counteracts the mid cut of the original pedal.

Keeping in mind the "tweaks" as described, I found this to be a really great and versatile fuzz-octave. Often, with the octave effect engaged, things can get a bit thin and "out of tune", leaving it useful for single note riffs, leads and solos; with this pedal, things stayed full, well-tracked and produced just a great useful effect(s). Even without the "Mid Boost", nice and beefy, which I ascribe to the "tweaks", making this a take on the original and not a reissue or even a clone. Nice suede(like???) storage bag, too! Packaged well with protective foam for knobs and switches, also. I had a blast with this pedal as soon as I plugged in!

Let's start at this pedal is advertised as a vintage fuzz octave. Unfortunately it's not even close. This was a-b with the original Fulltone ultimate octave an fuzz octave along with the Warm Audio foxy tone fuzz. The 3699 can't compete, sorry. To much mids, an the mid switch just makes it worse. It got sent back. Not worth the $200. It did however sound great on my bass if your looking for a heavy doom sound.
